Sony Ponders PSP-Direct Online Store

50°
354w ago - According to the source above, Sony has commented that it is definitely thinking about a future direct PSP Playstation store which will cut the middle men out of the equation (ie the PC and PlayStation 3 console).

To quote: When asked if the storefront would eventually be accessible via PSP, SCEA director of PSN operations Eric Lempel told MTV Multiplayer, "Clearly that's something we're thinking about. With the capability of the PSP it's something that should be possible.

It's just a matter of priorities and some technology that we need to make it all work right and make sure the content is delivered securely, just to protect some of our [intellectual properties]. Yeah, it's definitely something we're thinking about."

Sony: PS3 In-Game XMB Being Worked On

50°
354w ago - When the 2.0 firmware update for PS3 was finally released, many users were disappointed over the fact that the update did not include in-game XMB access as originally expected.

The good news is that we still may see in-game XMB packed in a future firmware update according to Sony marketing VP Peter Dille, to quote from the link above:

As far as in-game XMB access, we know it's a feature that's important to our consumers. Because PS3 packs so much advanced technology "under the hood," it takes some time to implement major, new functionalities, but we are working hard on addressing this feature, as well as continually expand the capabilities and functionalities of PS3.

We expect firmware updates to continue in 2008 and throughout the product's lifecycle as new technologies and enhancements become available.

355w ago - To quote from Daimion Pinnock: I'm the SCEA Producer for wipEout PULSE on the PSP. I just wanted to give you a quick update on what's currently happening with the franchise from the very talented SCEE Liverpool wipEout team.

I want you guys and gals out there to know that this will be the biggest installment of the wipEout franchise to be released to date on the PSP.

There are some screenshots below that I'd like you all to see, it will be interesting to know what your thoughts are.

We plan on having a specific website available that will allow everyone world-wide to have access to in order to get different information regarding the different tracks that are available. Also, we will have a unique ship customization tool that will be available for the first time in the wipEout franchise on the PSP. Players will be able to design their own skins, logos and basically give their ship its own unique identity.

We're currently in some of the final stages of development, and I'll be back in a couple of weeks to update you all with regards to some more of the cool features that will be available, and also news on the 8-player Infrastructure Mode.

355w ago - A Dutch PSP site has the scoop that Sony is to launch a brand new battery which is compatible with both the PSP orginal and the new PSP Slim & Lite.

The new 2200mAh should offer 20% more power on older models and 80% more life on the Slim version. However, on the PSP Slim, the battery will bulge out so new battery covers will be included.
