Microsoft Set to Bring 3D Motion Control to XBox 360 & PC Games

50°
286w ago - First reported as a rumor, Microsoft now stands to acquire 3DV Systems for the relatively small sum of $35 million.

3DV Systems has raised over $38 million from investors like Rafael Development Corporation and The IDB Group since its inception in 1997. Obviously this will result in a significant loss for the investors.

With the acquisition of 3DV Systems, Microsoft is looking to gain a stronger foothold in the video game console market. The company's Xbox 360 is currently in a distant second place in this generation of video game consoles behind Nintendo's Wii; a system that relies heavily on motion-based control, often considered easier for "non-gamers" to play.

Though the Xbox 360 and its nearest competitor the PlayStation 3 from Sony already have camera peripherals that can be used as control devices, the software for these has been less than stellar. The titles are always played on a 2D plane, leaving little room for innovative game design and the devices themselves are often imprecise or require excessive lighting to function.

The ZCam, which will undoubtedly be renamed by the time it is released to the public, was first announced back in 2007. It differentiates itself...

Capcom Top Secret XBox 360 Game Revealed - Lost Planet 2

50°
286w ago - Last week we reported on a new game announcement incoming from Capcom. They were to reveal the game through a download exclusively on Xbox LIVE.

That teaser is now available for download. You can find the 436mb download [Register or Login to view links] to the Xbox LIVE Marketplace.

Get downloading and as soon as we know what all the fuss is about, we'll let you know.

The secret game is, as expected, Lost Planet 2. We knew that the game was coming in 2009, and as is the case with the recently announced Dead Rising 2, we expect it to be a multiplatform title, especially since Lost Planet was eventually released for the PlayStation 3.

So what have we learnt from the trailer? Well there's a whole load of gameplay footage to watch, with the game being powered by Capcom's proprietary engine, the MT-FrameWork 2.0. The game will include significant climate change, meaning that the snow has now melted, revealing lush jungles.

Kenji Oguro is the game's director, with Resident Evil 5 producer Jun Takeuchi turning...

XBox 360: A Glimpse Into the Future with 3DV Systems

50°
287w ago - Recently there's been a lot of talk about Microsoft picking up 3DV systems. This would be implemented onto their future console known as of now, the Xbox 720.

If rumors are true, Microsoft's next console will utilize motion sensing in a true next-generation way. Heck, maybe it can even surpass the Wii with its outstanding motion controls.

If for some reason you don't know, the PS3 has motion controls as well; unfortunately, developers haven't been able to utilize this feature to the best of its experience. Back in 2002, Sony presented the Eye Toy in which your body movement is the controller.

Although a ground breaking idea, people weren't really feeling it back then. The games weren't that good, or at least good enough when compared to the other PS2 titles. People were more focused on all those AAA titles Sony was pushing.

Sadly, Sony dropped the ball with the Eye Toy; it was not promoted right and it got pushed to the corner of the room. Few developers would make games for it which in the end made for a cheapened experience.

Microsoft is looking to revive this technology now and take advantage of its full potential, just as Wii has done. If Microsoft can implement this feature on 360 it would be great seeing how massive the 360 fan base is. If they...
