Sony Shows an Exclusive Desire to Win the Next-gen Console War

350°
295w ago - First it came in the form of an epic 'screw you' to every non-Sony gamer who was looking forward to the simultaneous multiplatform PAL release of Ghostbusters: The Video Game.

The common criticism was that Microsoft had done it for a long time, so why shouldn't Sony be able to do the same thing?

As time passed it became clear that Atari was in some potentially dire financial straits that may well have acted as necessary motivation to accept Sony's offer.

Potentially Sony was acting as a saviour and throwing Atari a lifeline that allowed them to release a game that has enjoyed considerable positive hype.

The other platforms aren't missing out on Ghostbusters entirely; they're merely forced to wait for a period of time before they can access it.

In this respect, the Ghostbusters debacle can be seen as 'just desserts' for Microsoft who have been more than willing to do such things in the past.

But then came the announcement that Batman: Arkham Asylum, another multiplatform release, is set to receive exclusive content for PS3 owners. PS3 owners who purchase Arkham Asylum will be able to access The Joker in the game's Challenge Modes.

295w ago - Sony's Social Media Senior Specialist Chris Morell has posted a new E3 2009 Critter Crunch for PSN today on the PlayStation Blog.

To quote: You saw Critter Crunch in a post a few weeks back, marking the historic debut of technicolor barf to PSN.

So we tracked down cofounder and President of [Register or Login to view links], Nathan Vella, at E3 2009. Here, Nathan talks us through Critter Crunch and how it plays, going in-depth with competitive and co-op multiplayer modes and more.

Everyone who played it on the show floor seemed to enjoy it, and we're stoked to show off more of Critter Crunch in the near future, with Nathan promising to bring it back to the Blog very soon.

Video: E3 09 on the Show Floor: Quantum for PlayStation 3

295w ago - Sony Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein has shared another E3 2009 video, this time covering the upcoming PS3 title Quantum.

To quote: Today we bring you an interview on a game that many readers have been asking about: Quantum.

This 3rd person action-shooter is shaping up to be a very interesting addition to the PS3 software lineup, with a brutal brand of shooting that may well be a first on the console.

Take a look at the video (with US Producer Pete Garza) and let us know what you think.

I'm definitely looking to get more time with the game (which is currently around 40% complete), and we also are looking forward to sharing more with you as well.

More from the show floor to come!

E3 2009: PSP Go Accessories Displayed at the Show

50°
295w ago - A number of PSP Go accessories have already been spotted at E3 2009.

The accessories include a padded protection sleeve, charging cradle, redesigned charging cable, component and composite cables with a new connector and first party protective screen film.

To quote: The PSP go may have been one of the worst kept secrets of E3, but that hasn't stopped the new handheld from being one of the most talked about items at the show.

The PSP go was on the showfloor at Sony's massive booth for all to play, but hidden atop Sony's tour of demo stations we found a platform where a case of new PSP go accessories were being displayed.

According to Sony reps, the accessories are all in prototype form and specifics on pricing and availability will not be announced until later this year. Still, we can get a rough idea of what Sony has in the works from what we saw, which included:

• Padded Protective Sleeves
• Charging/Docking Cradle
• Redesigned Charging Cable
• Component and Composite Cables with new connector
• First-party Protective Screen Film

Apparently Sony has a number of other accessory concepts in development, but again, we won't hear more about them until the PSP go's release date nears.

50°
296w ago - Today Geoff Keighley has [Register or Login to view links] a picture (featuring Mickey, Dutch, Romeo, Rookie and Buck) of the Microsoft E3 stage, and has revealed that Halo ODST for XBox 360 will be at E3 2009.

This will most likely save Microsoft from a weak E3 with very few exclusives.

For those who didn't know, the Microsoft Press Conference will be held on June 1, 2009 at 10:30am.

Both Nintendo and Sony's Press Conferences will follow on June 2, 2009 at 9am and 11am respectively.

It should be quite an exciting week indeed!
