179w ago - Today Naughty Dog Co-President Evan Wells has shared his experience from this year's VGAs, where Uncharted 2 for PS3 won Game of the Year, as follows:
So the SPIKE TV Video Game Awards were this Saturday, and in case you hadn't heard, UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves walked away with Game of the Year!
It's a huge honor and the team is still basking in the glow of that moment. While it's still fresh in my mind, I wanted to share a little behind the scenes recap of how it all went down.
I arrived at the show with Christophe, Amy and Bruce and we walked the red carpet, which was a pretty cool way to start the evening off. There were tons of media lined up with cameras and microphones ready for interviews. We stopped for a few interviews and Christophe even played a game of Wii Resort Table Tennis against one of our interviewers (he let her win... so he says).
Continuing down the carpet, we ran into a bunch of people arriving at the same time as us like Marty O'Donnell from Bungie (who walked away with the award for Best Score for Halo: ODST... congrats!), our friends from Infinity...
182w ago - Just under two weeks ago Sony incorporated Facebook integration into the PS3 XMB through the PS3 Firmware 3.10 update.
Today, NewMediaAge (linked above) is reporting that Sony PlayStation and Facebook are launching a year-long global interactive tournament in December following its recent partnership with social network Facebook.
Details are sparse at the moment, however, we do know that the tournament will be referred to simply as 'The Game' and will highlight the social networking elements of the PS3 system.
To quote: "Sony PlayStation is launching a year-long global interactive tournament, dubbed The Game, following its recent partnership with social network Facebook.
The Game, slated for an early December release and hosted via the online PlayStation Network, is the first tie-up between the two companies after they struck a partnership deal earlier this month."
191w ago - In an interview today, chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment of America Jack Tretton said he expects the PS3 price cuts and lineup of popular games due ahead of the Christmas holiday will lift the entire video game industry, following some six months of sales declines.
However, he also noted that higher demand for the PlayStation 3 could leave some retailers out of stock.
To quote: "In a very difficult economy, I couldn't be more optimistic about our fortunes for the rest of the year and for the future," he said.
But he noted that higher demand for the PS3 could leave some retailers out of stock.
"If things continue at this pace, it is conceivable that there will be product shortages," Tretton said.
195w ago - It appears LittleBigPlanet is in for a second recall, but this time it's not for allegedly offensive Islamic themes.
Media Molecule has sent out an internal memo to GameStop stores saying to load up and ship back any copies of LittleBigPlanet as the upcoming LittleBigPlanet: Game of the Year Edition will be using the same sales SKU.
To quote: "Today, GameStop received an internal memo telling managers to load up their copies of LittleBigPlanet for a recall.
Why? It seems that the Game of the Year Edition of LittleBigPlanet will be using the same sale SKU as the original title and they'll only be offering the GOTY edition here on out."
197w ago - As a follow-up to our previous post, today SCEA Marketing Manager Mark Valledor has officially announced LittleBigPlanet - Game of the Year Edition for PS3. According to the boxart (below), it's also bound for PlayStation Home.
To quote: Today, we're pleased to announce the upcoming release of LittleBigPlanet - Game of the Year edition, which will ship to stores on September 8th for $59.99 with a "Sackful" of bonus content.
First off, you'll get the full award-winning LittleBigPlanet gameplay experience, or as we like to call it "Play Create Share" - ok, that was a bit to 'infomercially' (sorry), but you get the idea.
Everything that made LittleBigPlanet one of the biggest games on the PS3 is in there.
Next, to give our new fans a taste of the over 1,000,000 user-generated levels available on the PlayStation Network, Media Molecule has hand-picked 18 extraordinary people to Create bonus levels specifically for the GOTY edition - complete with interviews with each creator. We loved how these levels turned out and hope you will to.
And, for everyone looking for a great value, the...
