Microsoft Job Posting Suggests Move to Web, Console and Mobile

263w ago - According to Arstechnica (linked above), a new [Register or Login to view links] suggests that Microsoft is looking to create a gaming platform that goes beyond just the Xbox 360 to the Web, console and mobile devices.

The job posting from August 10, 2009 states Microsoft is looking for a LIVE Community Director in the Entertainment & Devices Division.

This suggests that Microsoft is looking to bring the Xbox Live, Windows Mobile, and other similar properties closer together. More specifically, there's talk of a "casual and social gaming platform" that would be available via more than just one device.

To quote: The LIVE Engagement Team is looking for a LIVE Community Director to manage its LIVE community strategy and execution across a range of properties, from Xbox LIVE to Windows Mobile.

This senior position will play a vital role in the community space as the LIVE Engagement team builds and program's Microsoft's next-generation, LIVE-enabled casual and social gaming platform across the Web, the console, mobile and beyond.
 

Final Fantasy XIV Web site Goes Live, New Screens Available

264w ago - After the recent magazine leaks, today Square Enix announced that the official [Register or Login to view links] is live.

The battle and job systems will be different than the one previously used in Final Fantasy XI, which utilized experience points, and that the character races and monsters will resemble those found in Final Fantasy XI to allow players to create avatars similar to ones created in Final Fantasy XI.

Group play has been de-emphasized, and now solo and group play have been balanced... while weapon use will alter "character development".

The Web site contains new screenshots, a trailer and details on the game world's storyline, locations and races. There's also a brief overview of the game's mechanics, including the various skillsets a player can specialize in.

For those curious, Final Fantasy XIV will be heading to Sony's PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows in 2010.
 

Rumor: French Web site Reports a PS3 Price Cut and New Model

265w ago - Popular French Web site JeuxVideo (linked above) is reporting that they have received confirmation of a PS3 price cut to 299 Euros in early September.

Additionally, they have reaffirmed the rumor from two days ago in stating that a new, cheaper PS3 model (likely the long-awaited PS3 Slim) will be announced at Sony's Gamescom press conference held in Cologne on August 18, 2009.

To quote, roughly translated: For many months that the most fanciful rumors circulating on the net about a price drop of the PlayStation 3.

But this time it seems to be confirmed as contacted by us, some wholesalers say that the price of the console Sony will soon drop. And even better, since we can announce that a new version of the console that goes out!

The official announcement of the new cheaper version of the PS3 would be made at the press conference that the Japanese giant held in Cologne at the gamescom Tuesday 18 August at 18h French time, we will cover the show and of course We also...
 

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Web site Launches, New Screens

265w ago - Just over a day after Naughty Dog has confirmed that Uncharted 2: Among Thieves will have no mandatory PS3 HDD installation the official Web site launches.

Currently on the [Register or Login to view links] are some new screenshots and also an interactive 360-degree view of the Nepal Warzone map.

Those interested can also kick up a notch your PS3 or PC's background with the wallpapers offered for download there.

With Multiplayer DLC in the works, Uncharted 2 is definitely going to be hit-bound when it's released this October.
