KaKaRoTo Introduces PL3, 3.01, 3.10 and 3.15 PSFreedom Ports

1000°
208w ago - Today KaKaRoTo has introduced a common [Register or Login to view links] of payloads that can be used by any PS3 JailBreak implementation called PL3, and also said he is making progress with PSFreedom ports for PS3 Firmware 3.01, 3.10 and 3.15.

Download: PL3 PS3 JailBreak Payloads

To quote: "I'll announce two things, first, let's talk about PL3.. PL3 is a new project I started in order to have a common repository of payloads that can be used by any 'jailbreak' implementation. I got tired of copying payloads from PSGroove, and I had some nice changes in mine that I thought the PSGroove project could benefit from, so I thought I'd create a single repository that both projects, PSFreedom and PSGroove (or any other similar projects) could use.

You can find it in github, so don't hesitate to submodule it and use it.

Second important news... I've bought a new PS3 just for homebrew. Thanks to all who donated money so I can buy it (I didn't get enough donations to pay for it, but enough to help me). I bought this PS3 used and it came with firmware 3.01! This is good and bad news : I can't use PSFreedom to jailbreak it, so i've put on hold any improvements for it, however,...

NullDC / PCSX2 WIP PS3 Ports in Development

800°
211w ago - Today PuppetMaster reports that drk||Raziel has just [Register or Login to view links] he is working on porting NullDC and PCSX2 to Sony's PS3 entertainment system.

For those unaware, NullDC is a DreamCast emulator and PCSX2 is a PS2 emulator, with the official news update below, to quote:

"Well, sometimes you just can't get free from your projects as easily as you want to. So, seeing as there wasn't much interest in nulldc's source I started to work at it again ! (And yes, of course it will remain open source).

So, I'm officially again working on nullDC! There's a bank of ideas on the wiki on what I plan to do. We're also planning to get the project side back up and stuff.

Leaving that aside, I'd also like to ask for donations. The project hasn't really asked for donations so far (except specific cases, like the Pandora port that required hardware to be brought). As I'm running quite low on money I'll open up donations for the project.

Donated money will be used for: Getting a ps3, porting/working on nullDC/pcsx2 for ps3, getting a jtag'd xbox to port stuff to it, and finally to pay for server/misc hardware fees."

216w ago - This weekend [Register or Login to view links] has launched their new accessory featured on [Register or Login to view links] dubbed the PS3 Hub for the PlayStation 3, which offers PS3 Slim owners more USB ports alongside a memory card reader.

The add-on accessory connects to the PS3 Slim console providing users with three extra USB slots and several variations of SD card slots.

Below is a picture of the the maximum amount of devices that can be connected with the PS3 Hub to a PlayStation 3 Slim, with some additional pictures available HERE.

Finally, to quote from TheSixthAxis.com (linked above): "For 2,000 Yen, the device plugs into the right-most USB port giving you another 3 extra sockets (so 4 in total) plus plenty of memory-card related goodness, including an SD cart slot that's sadly missing on most models after the launch console.

The ports aren't powered, although you can connect (judging from my translation) an external power supply to give them more juice."

Capcom Dev: Sony Motion Controller Means Wii-to-PS3 Ports

550°
262w ago - During a recent interview with Capcom's Jun Takeuchi, 1UP (linked above) was told that several Japanese developers welcome Sony's upcoming PS3 Motion Controller as it opens the door for Wii-to-PS3 ports.

To quote from the interview: "1UP: What about Sony's motion control device?

JT: Well just being from Capcom, I can tell you that we have a lot of good ideas on how to make use of that technology and we're looking forward to putting them into practice.

However, speaking to other developers in Japan, I've heard a few of them say they were delighted by the Sony motion controller because they can just port over their Wii titles to the PS3."
