232w ago - Today IGN has published a statement from Sony's Product Publicity Rep on the rumored PS3 Firmware 3.0 features.
To quote: The worldwide Web is abuzz with another PlayStation 3 rumor. This one claims that PS3 Firmware 3.0 will be out by Christmas and bring a complete overhaul in the vein of the new Xbox Experience.
The rumor says you can expect background patch downloading, a reputation system, and more.
Sony says that's B.S. as follows:
"These rumors are completely untrue, nothing has been announced or confirmed for upcoming PlayStation firmware, and this is just wild speculation," said Jennifer Clark, director of SCEA product publicity.
232w ago - Although it is still some time away (Super_Secretpredicts PS3 Firmware 3.0 won't be out during the summer, but before the holidays) the folks at VG247 (linked above) have uncovered some additional details on it.
To quote: The software upgrade has been described to us as "a huge overhaul", and was compared to NXE "in some respects".
The before-rumored reputation system will be included. We were told that, "A reputation system in which users will be able to evaluate each other will be provided for... game applications.
"There will be a new API available to so the user can... allow users and also obtain users' reputation."
A "grief reporting system" will be included in the update, allowing gamers to take screens of offensive players and submit them to Sony. Apparently this is going to be similar to the LBP system, and is likely to include a text input.
Firmware 3.0 will allow patches will be downloaded in the background, meaning you'll no longer have to sit staring at the screen while Random Shooter updates itself with a 500Mb fix.

242w ago - To follow up on the previous Killzone 2 v1.24 patch details and their trailer from earlier today, Guerrilla Games Lead Online Game Designer Eric Boltjes shared the following update:
In a continuing effort to provide support for Killzone 2 Online, and to show you day-1 fans of Killzone that we mean business, we are very happy to announce the upcoming 1.24 patch.
This patch is the biggest one yet, and addresses a large number of reported issues, exploits and bugs - but it also adds new functionality to the game for you to enjoy!
I would like to highlight the fact that we are adding 3 new ranks to the game, reached at 5000, 10000 and 100000 points respectively. These ranks do not give any rewards but it allows the real hardcore players to show off their hard work to everyone in-game!
Other highlights include a new 17-24 player search game filter, enlarged HUD radar distance and a much requested "Join Clan Member" tab in the join game screen. The patch also allows you to play against the next batch of contenders: Japan, who will be able to buy their copies of Killzone...
259w ago - The first trailer and footage for Focus Features' mysterious film 9 has hit the Web (video linked above) with some striking similarities to a recently released PS3 game.
9 is a story developed and directed by Shane Acker with stylish film vets Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov producing. Like Terminator Salvation, it's set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by machines - only this world is devoid of humans.
You see 9 looks like a sack puppet only he's a living being. He quickly discovers others like him and sets off to discover what wiped out the humans and how he and his companions might be the planet's last hope for survival.
The crew over at Media Molecule must be applauding this trailer right about now. You see, their new PS3 exclusive game LittleBigPlanet also features a protagonist stitched together from a sack held in place with a zipper. Seeing 9 and his buddies in action is eerily reminiscent of the style and aesthetics of playing LittleBigPlanet. The similarities are surely coincidental but cool to note nonetheless.
9 stars the voices of Elijah Wood, John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly, Martin Landau, Christopher Plummer and Crispin Glover and will be in theaters on 09-09-2009.
268w ago - Stephanie Fernandez (Localization Producer at NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc.) has shared the following via PS Blog today:
Hello, my name is Stephanie Fernandez and I worked as the Localization Producer on Eternal Sonata for the PLAYSTATION 3.
Eternal Sonata will be shipping tomorrow, October 21st, and it will include new features and extras that can only be found on the PLAYSTATION 3 platform.
In preparation for the game's release, I wanted to share with you some of my thoughts and insights from working on the game and give you a few more details about the new exclusive content.
When I started working on Eternal Sonata for the PS3, I was pleased to find out there would be additional story material incorporated into the game that is unique to the platform. I had always felt there were some aspects of the story which might be a little too vague for anyone who didn't have the advantage of the background knowledge that I had about the story.
But now there are scenes that give the game player a little more insight; scenes that reveal a bit more general information about the concept behind the story and more specific details regarding character motivations.
Not that everything is spelled out point-by-point-you...
