Team17 Introduces Worms: Battle Islands for PlayStation Portable

194w ago - Today Team17 Community Manager Mark Baldwin has introduced Worms: Battle Islands for the PlayStation Portable handheld console.

To quote: This winter sees the release of the latest game in our long running Worms series, Worms: Battle Islands, on PSP available from PlayStation Store.

Worms: Battle Islands marks the third time that the series has made an appearance on the PSP, and the game is packed with content and great new features, some of which I'll be talking about in this post.

Game overview:

The first thing to say about the game is that at its core it's the traditional 2D Worms experience.

It's a turn based game where players use a mix of strategy and skill to move their army of worms about a landscape, and attack one another with a range of funny weapons (exploding sheep, deadly bananas, fully automatic sub machine guns, etc.) until the last team standing are declared the winners. The physics are much more solid in this version and the game features a sizable inventory of forty different weapons and utilities, leading to more complex strategies and a more rewarding experience.

Environments:

In this game the players can do battle in six different environments. Often in Worms games the game's themes have...

Video: Squaring Up to a Giant Invizimal for PlayStation Portable

195w ago - SCEE UK Software Product Manager Phil Lynch has shared a video today showcasing Invizimals: Shadow Zone on the PlayStation Portable handheld.

To quote: As you may know, Invizimals is a PSP title that uses cutting edge augmented reality technology (a fancy name for combining real and virtual environments which are interactive in real-time).

I really wanted to share with you what happens when you use a large trap to view your Invizimals, instead of the one usually used with the game. This video shows the OCELOTL moving from a regular trap in my hand to a large 2–2 metre trap.

I've also got some behind the scenes videos that I'll post over the coming weeks in the run up to Invizimals Shadow Zone launching in November. Let me know what you think.

196w ago - Ubisoft Associate Producer Julien Quety has announced that Ghost Recon Predator is out today for the PlayStation Portable handheld.

To quote: We'd like to introduce you to Ghost Recon Predator for PSP, where you'll lead your elite squad deep behind enemy in the jungles of Sri Lanka.

In the game, the Ghosts encounter the enemy on his own ground; he knows the terrain better, has more allies, and knows where to hide and where to attack. Surprise is on his side - he can be anywhere and he can be anyone.

In a crowded street, you'll first have to make the distinction between friend and foe, and the only way to fulfil your mission is with the help of your technology and training.

With Ghost Recon Predator we wanted you to experience the Ghost Fantasy at its best on a handheld console. It is possible to unlock new weapons and customizations for your high-tech gadgets and your characters throughout the adventure. The soldiers in your team are highly trained and you can swap between different characters during the game.

The one thing that we are really excited about is the multiplayer co-op for up to three players. We hope you enjoy it!

Rumor: British Source Claims PSP2 to Release Holiday 2011

197w ago - A few weeks ago PSP2 was confirmed by developers, and today according to VG247.com (linked above) a British source claims Sony's PSP2 handheld will be released during Holiday 2011.

To quote: "Developers and publishers have been told that PSP2 will release at the end of next year, a British source familiar with the matter has told VG247.

"We've been told it's coming in late 2011," said our man.

PSP2 is about as badly concealed as a games system can be. It's been common knowledge for much of this year that content is being made for the system, and that dev kits are in the wild. CPU and GPU specs have yet to be confirmed.

Sony has been obviously silent on the chatter, but has gone on the record to say there are "no plans" to include 3D. This tallies with what we've been told in the past month.

The machine has a forward-facing and backward-facing camera, and will come with both touch-screen and physical controls."
