Sony PlayStation Network Security Update, SOE Now Down

189w ago - Today Sony's Senior Director of Corporate Communications & Social Media Patrick Seybold has made available another PlayStation Network security update to clarify some common PSN concerns, as follows:

On Tuesday, April 26 we shared that some information that was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network. Once again, we'd like to apologize to the many users who were inconvenienced and worried abut this situation.

We want to state this again given the increase in speculation about credit card information being used fraudulently. One report indicated that a group tried to sell millions of credit card numbers back to Sony. To my knowledge there is no truth to this report of a list, or that Sony was offered an opportunity to purchase the list.

One other point to clarify is from this weekend's press conference. While the passwords that were stored were not "encrypted," they were transformed using a cryptographic hash function. There is a difference between these two types of security measures which is why we said the passwords had not been encrypted. Sony Announces PlayStation Home 1.5, Sodium Space and More

191w ago - Sony's PS Home Community Specialist GlassWalls has announced the arrival of PlayStation Home version 1.5 update with the addition of a Sodium Personal Space and an Aurora War Event.

To quote: PlayStation Home will be taken offline this evening for our weekly content publish.

While this downtime will occur approximately 24 hours earlier than what you have become accustomed to per our regular schedule, when the doors are re-opened on the morning of Wednesday, April 20th, you'll find that PlayStation Home will be updated to version 1.5 and will, in turn, be bigger and better than ever before.

PlayStation Home v1.5 was developed with one singular goal in mind: high-quality games. The 1.5 update will introduce a suite of new technology for developers with tools that will provide their future games with real-time multiplayer, improved physics, as well as more realistic graphics and animations.

PlayStation Home v1.5 is packed with tools and features that will enable developers to expand the types of games possible on the platform - from first-person shooters with real-time, peer-to-peer multiplayer to racing games and more.

Hulu Plus v1.01 Update is Now Available for PlayStation 3

195w ago - Today Hulu's Senior Development Lead Daniel Bear has announced that the Hulu Plus version 1.01 update is available for PlayStation 3 users and includes several improvements and bug fixes.

To quote: This morning, we released the latest version of Hulu Plus for the PlayStation 3.

The update improves the quality of the playback experience, specifically addressing issues such as skips, jumps, and stalls that may occur on certain network connections.

You'll be presented with the update (v1.01) the next time you launch the Hulu Plus app on PS3. Improvements in this version include:

• Improvements and fixes for playback issues such as skipping, jumping, and stalling.
• Improved playback reporting to help our team improve the playback experience.
• UI tweaks to compensate for device overscan.
• Added ability for new users to sign up for a Hulu Plus subscription within the application.
• Additional improvements and bug fixes.

PS3 Firmware 3.60 System Software Update Live, Details Arrive

PlayStation Plus subscribers can now backup their save files via Cloud online storage, which allows users to store up to 150MB of save data or 1,000 save files (whichever comes first).

The PS3 Firmware 3.60 update also allows users to select a timer for their PlayStation 3 controllers through the addition of a new menu option to set the amount of time before the PS3 controller powers off due to inactivity.
