One user report [Register or Login to view links] on the official PlayStation forums: "Are you kidding me! First (3.21) it freezes, and now with this one (3.30) it won't even read or recognize the disk, that means that I won't be able to play online or offline."

247w ago - Today xorloser has 'propered' the recently released GeoHot PS3 Hack in attempt to accomodate all PlayStation 3 Firmware versions with the exploit.

To quote: As I'm sure everybody heard, the memory access exploit for the PS3 hypervisor was released recently by geohotz. I was finally able to replicate his hack so I thought I'd take the time to help out others who may also have trouble due to being linux n00bs like me.

If I were to post everything at once it would be too much work and I'd never get around to it, so I'll post bits at a time to ensure I actually do post it heh. Today's post will talk about the software side of the exploit.

Please note that the geohotz exploit software was hardcoded for the v2.42 firmware, I have made a small fix that attempts to dynamically support all firmware versions. I have only tested and used it on v3.15 however.

The first step is to install Linux on your PS3 which means of course that this will not work on a slim PS3. I tried a few different Linux distros and after various different issues I settled on using...

258w ago - Today PlayStation Network Operations Director Eric Lempel shared a video preview of the upcoming PS3 Firmware v3.10 update.

To quote: Hi everyone, here's an early peek at PlayStation 3 (PS3) firmware update (v3.10). The latest update incorporates Facebook into the PS3 experience.

By linking your PlayStation Network account to your Facebook account, you will have the option for the PS3 to automatically update your Facebook News Feed with Trophy and PlayStation Store activity.

This update also enables developers to set specific criteria in their titles to publish additional game information to your News Feed. You can then check out your updates, and those of your friends, on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media favorites through the PS3's built-in web browser.

This is just the beginning of our integration with Facebook and we are looking forward to adding new features enhancing the experience in future updates.

Additional highlights from update 3.10 include:

• The Photo category on the XMB has been revamped to make it easier to see more of your photos stored on the PS3.
• The PSN Friends List has been modified based on feedback...

Sony: PlayStation 3 Firmware 3.00 Questions & Answers

850°
268w ago - Today PS3 Brand Manager Mark Bowles has made available a PS3 Firmware 3.0 Q&A on the European PlayStation Blog, as follows:

Many of you have been asking why we haven't responded to your complaints about last week's 3.0 update until now.

Sorry it's taken us a while to get back to you - this is obviously an emotive subject and there have been a lot of issues raised surrounding the release, so we wanted to make sure we could come back to you with a comprehensive response that answers your most frequently asked questions.

I don't like the "Fizz". How do I turn it off?

To turn the fizz off, go to the Theme Settings under Settings on the XMB, you can choose different themes from here. "Classic" is the default theme without the fizz.

Where's the game start chime gone? Why would you remove it?

One of the reasons we removed the PS3 jingle is that it was created to indicate the start of a game, but now we're offering non-game content such as Vidzone in addition to games. More importantly though, this change makes the loading time a bit quicker than before, which we think will be a noticeable benefit for all game users.
