Open Remote Play v1.0 BETA (for Mac OS X) Released!

700°
294w ago - A few weeks back we reported news on PS3 Remote Play being reverse-engineered with a Portable API in the works.

Today Dashhacker has released Open Remote Play v1.0 BETA (for Mac OS X), with a Windows version still in the works.

Download: Open Remote Play v1.0 BETA (for Mac OS X)

You will need access to a hacked PSP to export the remote play settings. All that's included in the download package.

ORP Howto:

1. If you have not done so already, register your PSP with your PS3 for Remote Play.
2. Copy the ORP_Export folder (it's included) to your PSP under /PSP/GAME
3. Run Open Remote Play Export on your PSP. This will create a file on the memory stick called export.orp. Copy this file to your PC.
4. Run the ORP GUI and click on Import, locate and import export.orp. You will have to manually change the IP address of your PS3, by default it will be set to 0.0.0.0. I keep two profiles, one for local LAN and another for when I'm connecting from the Internet. You can create multiple profiles by simply changing the Name field and clicking Save.
5. Click Import again,...

The Hunter for PC Out of Open BETA and a Free Download

50°
301w ago - The Hunter, developed by Avalanche Studios (the creators of Just Cause), promises to be the most true-to-life simulation of buck hunting ever designed.

With a mixture of different gaming features, from social networking to online play, The Hunter provides a sandbox island where patience and careful planning win out over run and gun play.

The game is just recently out in Open Beta, utilizing the same "login to play" system alongside ID Software (Quake Live) and EA (Battlefield Heroes). It's currently free to play after making an account and grabbing a 400mb file from download.

From the brief moment of play I've had, the presentation is nothing short of stunning. Birds fly in random patterns, deer sniff the air and scratch themselves. The graphics are phenomenal for such a small install, so it's definitely worth a look at their [Register or Login to view links].

315w ago - Update #2: 51N15T3R has now added the US PlayStation Home .PKG File (76.9MB) to our PSN Link Database!

Update: It appears some are still experiencing a C-991 network error when trying to log into the service with a message that tells you the connection to the server was lost.

As reported earlier today, you may now download PlayStation Home. The tech issues are now ironed out, and it's download is under the PlayStation Network Icon in XMB, you can't miss it!

From Jack Buser (Director, PlayStation Home) via PS Blog:

Hi PLAYSTATION 3 community,

I am so very happy to announce that PlayStation Home has now officially entered into Open Beta. Restart your PLAYSTATION 3, and you will see the PlayStation Home icon under the PlayStation Network column of the XMB. Click on the icon, and you are in.

Getting to this point has required a tremendous amount of participation, input, care, and passion from the thousands of beta testers who helped make PlayStation Home what it is today. So to all of you that have tested, from all of us on the PlayStation Home...

Sony: PlayStation Home Open Beta Launches Tomorrow

350°
315w ago - To solidify earlier confirmations, PlayStation Home Director Jack Buser stated the following via PS Blog today:

The day we've been waiting for is here! And this is just the beginning...

Today we announced that PlayStation Home will enter into open beta, and will be available to everyone tomorrow. This milestone represents the very beginning of a long journey together, as PlayStation Home is an ever evolving, always changing, organic experience – full of new friends to meet, new events to enjoy, and new content to explore.

If this will be your first time in PlayStation Home, be sure to talk to folks that have been around for a while, as they can show you the ropes. We also have a tutorial built in that will get you started with the controls, as well as help menus for you to reference in the Menu Pad. If you don't have a USB keyboard or Bluetooth headset paired with your PlayStation 3, now is the time to do so - either option will allow you to easily talk and meet everyone.

One of the first things that you'll notice that there are always things going on - parties, tournaments, events - some of which will be announced, and...

Confirmed: PlayStation Home Open Beta Launches Thursday

50°
315w ago - Talk about down to the wire, what I speculated yesterday might happen in weeks if not days is in fact happening tomorrow.

When you turn on your PlayStation 3 consoles on Thursday, you'll have the option to freely download the 3GB PlayStation Home client, dash off an avatar, then dip your toes into Sony's shiny, neo-industrial digital preserve.

So much for speculation by some that the way you get the client "isn't going to be via a mere firmware update or PlayStation Store download."

Nearly two years of work's gone into creating this collage of areas which include bowling alleys, shops, nightclubs, billboards, a central plaza, and bars with game themes like Far Cry 2 and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

There's quite a lot to do, too. You can dance, play pool, chat, collect trophies, hang those trophies on virtual walls, watch videos, dance in front of other people watching videos, be sociable or socially awkward, even launch flying saucers from take-off pads and fly around popping bubbles.

If it sounds surreal, it kind of is. There's even a communal jukebox angle where the most requested song is what plays for everyone. (I don't know about you, but I'm voting for Iron Butterfly's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida.")

Some see this as resembling Second Life, except the...
