PlayStation 4 / PS4 Developers Rumored to Access 7GB GDDR5 RAM

400°
5w ago - While it is currently rumored that Sony will unveil PlayStation 4 later this month of in early May, today PS4Daily (linked above) reports that while the PS4 will ship with 8GB of GDDR5 memory, developers will only have access to 7GB of RAM.

Below are the details, to quote: "The PlayStation 4 will ship with a massive 8 GB of GDDR5 memory, which is a huge upgrade compared to the current generation consoles. However, according to a PlayStation 4 developer PS4Daily spoke to, they have access to “only” 7 GB of RAM. The remaining 1 GB is reserved for the operating system and background tasks.

Sony showcased a lot of PlayStation 4 features during the unveiling in February. This includes deep social features running in the background, new sharing options where players can watch each other play, and background downloading of games. All this chews up quite a bit of memory. Still, having access to 7 GB of super-fast GDDR5 memory is a lot better than the 512 MB in the PS3.

Sony originally shipped dev kits to third party developers with only 4 GB RAM, and kept the true RAM amount secret from third party developers in order to keep it secret from Microsoft as well. Developers...

Video: Frobisher Says - Mega Fun Pack Adds 15 New Mini-Games

200°
5w ago - Honeyslug Producer Mark Inman confirmed today that the Frobisher Says Mega Fun Pack adds 15 new mini-games and is out Tuesday with a video trailer below.

To quote: If you enjoy being ordered to open seafood, not smile at woodland creatures and punch a bear in the face, you'll be delighted to hear that Frobisher's Mega Fun Pack is coming to a PS Vita near you on Tuesday!

As if the previous requests Frobisher made weren't crazy enough, the Mega Fun Pack contains 15 new games involving such ludicrous demands as joining a gurning squad, milking a mammoth and driving to Stephen's house. Who is Stephen? We're still not quite sure.

Frobisher hasn't exhausted all the ways you can use your PS Vita to solve his conundrums, so expect to utilize the system's unique motion and touch capabilities in even more bizarre ways with the Mega Fun Pack.

In case you haven't played lately, Frobisher has added some new features for the main game - and our previous Super Fun Pack DLC - too! If you're used to doing his bidding, you'll be pleased to know that Frobisher has found some Trophies he no longer wants, and he's going to make you work for them.

For those...

6w ago - Sony Community Manager James Spafford has shared a fresh Tearaway video today inviting fans to unfold a new adventure this coming October 22 on PS Vita.

To quote: Tearaway will be available on shelves and on PSN October 22nd! We can't wait for you to get your hands on, and indeed in, our new game at the end of the year.

In Tearaway you'll journey through a vibrant, living papery world, with a plucky messenger who has a unique message to deliver - to you!

You'll uncover a magical dimension inspired by folklore, and built realistically from paper that unfolds and comes alive before your very eyes. As you explore this world you'll meet the papercraft creatures that live within it, help out strange new friends and encounter dangerous challenges.

We've designed the world of Tearaway to blend with our own through the unique features of the PS Vita, which allow you to help your messenger buddy to solve puzzles using the power of touch, literally breathe new life into this papercraft land, and reach up into the world using the rear-touch panel to see your fingertips appear inside...

Spring Fever Hits PSN: Four New Titles and Golf-Themed Discounts

50°
6w ago - Sony Digital Distribution Senior Manager Pierre Gravereau announced today news of four new titles hitting PSN alongside PS Plus and golf-themed game discounts.

Below are the details, as follows: With winter finally coming to an end, it's time to celebrate the changing of the seasons with our annual Spring Fever promotion on PlayStation Network!

We're championing independent developers this year, with a new indie title coming each week. You may have noticed during GDC that we are focusing on bringing the best independent games to PSN, and we're happy to reinforce our dedication to indie developers with this year's Spring Fever.

Each week during the month of April, we will bring a gaming experience from noteworthy independent developers, such as DrinkBox Studios and Frima Studio. Additionally, each title features Cross-Buy functionality for PS3 and PS Vita, and PlayStation Plus members get at least 20% off each title during launch week!

Spring Fever also offers sales on a number of games and add-ons from popular franchises each week, as well as some great deals on movies themed to each week's sale, which you'll learn more about in the PlayStation Store Update posts each Tuesday.
