Superbrothers and Jim Guthrie X Announce Sound Shapes Project

135w ago - Today Craig D. Adams of Superbrothers alongside Jim Guthrie X have officially announced news of their Sound Shapes project with details below.

To quote: A message from a representative at Superbrothers, written in the midst of a spring thunderstorm in the hill country at the Quebec/Vermont border.

It is with immense pleasure that we are announcing our involvement with a video game project known as Sound Shapes. We are extra excited to be contributing alongside sworcery maestro Jim Guthrie.

This represents the latest in a series of [Register or Login to view links] X [Register or Login to view links] a/v collaborations dating back to 2005′s musical film [Register or Login to view links] and 2008′s [Register or Login to view links], but this will be our first a/v collaboration since 2011′s cult classic videogame [Register or Login to view links].

Much like Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, Sound Shapes is a made-in-Toronto DIY videogame that is unusually collaborative and has a heavy emphasis on synesthetic audiovisual style.

Project: Dual Boot PS3 - 2 NOR Flashes with Switch for Brick Recovery

149w ago - I want to give everyone the heads-up on my Dual Boot PS3 (2 NOR Flashes with Switch for Brick Recovery) project and try and get some feedback...

For the last few days I've been busy unbricking/downgrading etc. The spare time I've had has gone into designing my own Dual NOR expansion board for the PS3

Basics are this: It allows you to install 2 firmwares - one on either NOR which can be easily enabled/disabled via switch on the mod board. Initially the NOR expansion will need flashing (Dump NOR 1 & flash NOR 2 with the image)

Could be used as a "Brick Backup" if for any reason you brick your onboard NOR, you have a second image on the expansion.
Primary use is of course to Dual Boot firmware without needing to use your programmer all the time - initial program would be a one-off.

Can be quite useful, hence the reason for designing it. I am quite aware of the fact there are other products available which function the same. This is my own design which is a fair bit cheaper than the current Dual setups.

Once final thing, please bear in mind this is a VERY early prototype atm and still in testing. More than likely there will be a few changes along the way, but updates will be regular (finally got my head round Cadsoft)

This is a test to boot your PS3 into service mode with the help of a PSP. Like i said all the PSP is compatible and all the PS3 users can test...
 

Project: Cobra and True Blue PS3 Dongles, TB EBOOTs Examined

151w ago - As a follow-up on our previous article with the spirit of Operation: Mongoose in mind, we are continuing to examine both the Cobra and True Blue PS3 DRM-infected dongles and TB EBOOT files, and welcome any help with this project from other PlayStation 3 developers in the scene!

First let me tell you the following explanation is not a theory or any rumors, it's actually how the USB dongles work to allow different things.

We heard many rumors / theories about the process of the Cobra / True Blue but I didn't see anyone give any big answer about that (I'm not saying I would give you the big answer but the explanation how it works and how to make this possible)

Cobra / True Blue Part 1

Both dongle use syscall / payload (after a big investigation, both dongle also follow the work of graf_chokolo and the functionality of the dongle can be ported into a CFW (not a good idea from some devs I guess)

Cobra / True Blue use a lv1_wrapper (syscall implementation) that can allow to use subroutine function into kernel mode call....
 

Project PNM Stand-Alone Mode for PS3 NOR Flash Mangement

171w ago - As a follow-up to the previous Project PNM news, here is another update from PlayStation 3 hacker No_One below.

To quote: Hi mates, I wanted to give you news concerning the PNM project. I really missed time. But I just finished what I call the "stand-alone mode". In this mode, we can do everything concerning the NOR FLASH mangement.

Here are the functions working now:

  • copy memory
  • dump memory
  • update memory
  • display memory CRC32
  • read memory
  • display memory details

PNM is now working with 2 NOR sockets and 1 "virtual" one which is the PS3 embedded memory. It means for example that now we can dump/update the PS3 NOR like any flasher, but also copy its content to another FLASH and so on...

Next step now consists in wiring the PNM board to the PS3. This is what I call the "PS3 mode". I will do it next week

I will of course give you details, some nice pictures and maybe a video. We are not so far to be capable to dual firmware the PS3 and do some nice progress in FLASH decrypting.
