14w ago - Sony Social Media Manager Sid Shuman is here with a fresh video demonstrating Killzone: Shadow Fall PS4 Multiplayer hands-on with the PlayStation 4 console below.
To quote: Going hands-on with Killzone: Shadow Fall's multiplayer mode for the first time at Gamescom, I couldn't help but feel that Shadow Fall represents a sea change for the veteran shooter series.
The gameplay retains the series' signature weight and heft, so you never feel like you're ice-skating through the the meticulously detailed environments. But thanks to a host of refinements from Guerrilla Games, Shadow Fall is undeniably a faster, more fluid, and more satisfying Killzone. Call it Killzone reborn.
DualShock 4 plays a significant role here, with its massively upgraded ergonomics and shooter-friendly L2 and R2 triggers (though Shadow Fall will allow you to use the classic L1 and R1 as well, if you prefer).
After my play session, Game Director Steven ter Heide commented that the Shadow Fall no longer uses aim assist, making it a truer test of skill. And you'll never even notice that change, given the high responsiveness of DualShock 4's comfortable new analog sticks.
14w ago - Today Derek Yu at Mossmouth announced on Sony's blog that Spelunky lands on both PS3 and PS Vita via PSN with details below.
To quote: Spelunky is arriving on PlayStation Store today for PS Vita and PS3. As part of PS Vita Summer Select, PS Plus members will receive 20% off through September 2nd! Yay!
This is Spelunky's PlayStation debut as well as its handheld debut. It also happens to be the first game I've ever released on a handheld, which is personally very exciting, as portable gaming has been such a big part of my life. And I can't think of a better game or system to do this with!
Spelunky has two qualities that make it a great portable experience, in my opinion. On the one hand, it's very much a classic arcade game - challenging, but short.
It may take you a thousand tries to finally beat it, but each run will last under an hour (some only a few seconds!). On the other hand, Spelunky also borrows a lot from roguelikes, like the randomization, freedom of choice, and numerous, surprising possibilities.
The result, I hope, is a game that you will play for years and years on your Vita: on your bed, on the train, and abroad (maybe even in a real cave somewhere?).
15w ago - Sony's Social Media Manager Sid Shuman went hands on today with Battlefield 4 Multiplayer on PS4.
Below are the details, as follows: DICE's upcoming Battlefield 4 has captured the attention of military shooter enthusiasts for a host of reasons, not the least of which is the game's promise of 64-player multiplayer warfare running at a smooth 60 frames per second on PS4.
At Gamescom, I got some hands-on time with the first PS4 build of the game - we were among the first group to play the PS4 build outside of DICE. Here's a quick after-action report.
For starters, the game runs at fluid 60 fps and its benefits were instantly noticeable on PS4. This translates to a decidedly smoother, much more responsive feel compared to Battlefield 3 on PS3.
The speedy framerate means that the game simply controls better, whether you're quickly sweeping your aiming reticule to ward off a surprise close-range attack or making smaller aiming adjustments to nail a precise headshot. Sprinting and vaulting over low cover also feels much more responsive and gives you an edge in the game's sprawling battle zones, where death lurks around every corner and peers out of every window.
BF4 also benefits hugely from the many refinements of DualShock 4. The overhauled L2 and R2 triggers wrap...
15w ago - Gearbox Software Product Manager Adam Fletcher announced today at Gamescom 2013 that Borderlands 2 is coming to PlayStation Vita.
Below are the details, as follows: Hello travelers! The dream finally becomes a reality, as PlayStation, Gearbox Software and 2K announces today at Gamescom that the addictive first person shooter-looter mayhem of Borderlands 2 will be coming to PS Vita.
I watched as Randy Pitchford, president of Gearbox Software, stood on stage at the Rezzed show in the UK a year ago and told fans that, with PlayStation's support, he'd love to see Borderlands 2 on PS Vita. For the last year, Gearbox Software, 2K, and PlayStation have been inundated with emails, tweets, forum posts and more from passionate gamers across the world pleading for a PS Vita version of Borderlands 2.
You spoke, we listened, and with the wonderful collaboration between 2K, PlayStation and the team at Iron Galaxy Studios - makers of indie fighting game Divekick - we can finally make Borderlands 2 on PS Vita a reality!
For those of you new to the critically acclaimed shooting-and-looting mayhem of Borderlands 2, which won more than 55 editorial awards in 2012, you'll be picking from four uniquely-skilled Vault Hunters - Axton the Commando, Maya the Siren, Salvador the Gunzerker...
16w ago - Polytron Producer Marie-Christine Bourdua announced today that Fez is set to melt minds on PS4, PlayStation Vita and PS3 platforms!
To quote: Hi there! My name is Marie-Christine Bourdua, producer at Polytron, and I'm here today to announce that Fez is coming soon to PS Vita, PS3 and PS4. Making Fez happen has been such an incredible journey, and we are truly thrilled to see our game come to PlayStation platforms.
Fez development started six and a half years ago with Phil Fish's ideas and Renaud Bedard's programming skills. The Montreal-based studio was (and still is) very small, but very ambitious.
Only 100 days into development, we submitted a Fez prototype to the 2008 Independent Games Festival, and were awarded the Visual Arts award, which was a huge public awareness and morale boost. But we still had a whole game to make!
We failed to meet a million deadlines and had to overcome financial obstacles, but met amazing collaborators along the way, like the game's composer, Rich Vreeland (aka Disasterpeace), and outstanding pixel artist Paul Robertson.
The game was taking shape, had a unique atmosphere and aura of mystery that we knew would find fans. As we were wrapping up development, James Swirsky and Lisanne Pajot (makers of the Sundance-nominated...
