Koller: PSP-3000 Battery Life Equal to Previous Model

100°
293w ago - Earlier last week, Sony Computer Entertainment America marketing head John Koller revealed during a interview that the battery life of the PSP-3000 would be reduced by around 20-30 minutes due to the larger power draw of the handheld's brighter screen.

Despite this, Koller issued a clarification statement on the official PlayStation Blog today, reassuring consumers that the PSP-3000 model will have "equivalent battery life to the current PSP," which equates to 4 to 6 hours for games and around 4 to 5 hours for UMD videos.

The enhanced screen does consume more battery juice, but according to Koller, Sony's engineers have managed to reduce power consumption of other system parts, making it all even out.

To quote: Hi, everyone, there have been reports about the battery life of the new PSP system (PSP-3000) being shorter than the current model (PSP-2000), following an interview we recently did with Gamespot. I'd like to make a correction and clarify that the new PSP will have equivalent battery life to the current PSP, about 4 to 6 hours for games and about 4 to 5 hours for UMD videos.

Rumor: New PS3 Firmware to fix GTA IV issues on 60 GB model

50°
309w ago - According to a poster named intimidtr3 on the US PlayStation Boards, 2K games Tech Support have said that Sony are looking into producing a new firmware just for the earlier version of the PS3 to fix the GTA IV issues.

To quote: Hello Xxxxx,

There is an issue with the launch edition of the PS3 and this game, the game was checked over and passed as 100% compatible with the current version of the PS3, of course the earlier version has custom chips which mean that it is a very different animal from the current PS3 on sale.

Sony are aware of this difference and are looking into producing a new firmware just for the earlier version of the PS3.

Kind Regards,

2K games Tech Support

SCEE: 40GB PS3 is the model of choice going forward worldwide

50°
334w ago - Steve Fosted of SCEE has clarified that the 40GB PS3 SKU is the model of choice going forward and the 60GB SKU has already been stopped in production. He also confirmed that the 40GB is not just the model of choice in SCEE regions but also worldwide. To quote:

GN: There seems to be some confusion as to what PlayStation 3 models are going to be available in South Africa going forward – obviously currently the 60GB and the 40GB that just came out now. But is the idea to phase out the 60GB and bring in the 80GB at a later stage?

SF: Well, there has been a lot of confusion and speculation about the different models we have in the market. I think the confusion comes because of the different territories that we operate in. For example, the US has a different model structure than the European, which has a different model structure to the Japanese. Ultimately all of those are rationalising, becoming as one.

The model of choice, going forward, is going to be the 40GB. So when you say the 60GB is going to be phased out, that is absolutely correct. And our manufacturing plant has already stopped production of 60GB and there is no truth to what you say about the 80GB – it's a fabrication, or a misunderstanding.

GN: So the only model going forward, worldwide, is the 40GB?
