Konami announces Metal Gear Solid 4 Add-on

100°
338w ago - Konami has announced that a free downloadable add-on for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots will be made available on PS3 on Thursday (June 26th) in Europe.

The Metal Gear Solid 4 Database is a comprehensive archive detailing characters, weapons and plot elements from 1987's original Metal Gear title right through to the most recent title.

According to Konami, the system allows users to search via three central hubs: GENE (a glossary), MEME (which maps the relationships between characters in the series), and SCENE (a timeline for the series).

Users can jump from page to page using specific keywords, with the relevant information appearing instantly. All information relating to Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, however, can only be accessed when the software detects a save data file created when the game has been completed, as to avoid spoiling the final adventure.

A statement from Konami reported: 'Metal Gear Solid 4 Database is a stunning - and completely free - companion to the series, and will answer any question pertaining to Hideo Kojima's games and characters.'

EGM won't Review MGS4 because Konami Imposed Limitations

550°
341w ago - To recap: Konami are imposing restrictions on what publications can and cannot talk about when reviewing Metal Gear Solid 4. No mention of 90-minute cutscenes please, and while you're at it, no talky-talky about install sizes either, K? IGN are cool with that. EGM, refreshingly, are not.

Due to "limitations Konami wanted to impose on our comments", the editorial team decided to refrain from giving the game a score, and in lieu of a "review" posted a lengthy roundtable discussion about the game instead. It's hardly a gloved fist on an Olympic dias, but it is nice seeing somebody do something about such an... unsavoury practice.

Reviewers often have restrictions about what they can and can't talk about in reviews - in my experience, these have been restricted to plot details, which have an embargo date a little bit later than the general review does. But MTV Multiplayer's Stephen Totilo has apparently heard from some gaming media sources who said that when it comes to Metal Gear Solid 4, particular details are off-limits.

I've been told by two gaming media sources who asked to remain anonymous that Konami representatives had been asking print reviewers to keep some technical details out of their reviews, namely the length of the game's cut-scenes and the size of the game's installation...

Konami joins Rock Band Revolution Tour

50°
344w ago - Konami has unveiled a multi-platform, multi-instrument rhythm title called Rock Revolution.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are being handled by Zoe Mode, a Brighton based developer who made EyeToy Play Sports and collaborated with Sony London Studio on Singstar.

The DS and Wii editions will be developed by HB Studios, who are just wrapping up Big Beach Sports for Wii.

Only the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will include extra peripherals. Konami boasts that the game will feature "the most realistic drum peripheral on the market," with six pads and a kick pedal that mimics an actual kit.

A five-note guitar peripheral can be used for lead guitar or bass. So far there's been no mention of a microphone.

Wii and DS uses will have to contend with using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to emulate playing a guitar and drums, which should - if nothing else - be hilarious to see how it works.

The initial release will feature forty songs and downloadable tracks will follow on PS3 and Xbox 360. According to Shacknews, Konami has confirmed all songs will be cover versions.

No set list has been released so far, but spotted during the demonstration were Blitzkrieg Bop, Chop Suey, Run to the Hills, Cum On Feel the Noize and Joke and the Thief.

Press Release:

The return of Bishi Bashi Special! Classic Konami PSOne title marks publisher's first download release via PlayStation Network in Europe Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has released its first title available via Sony's PlayStation Network download store in the form of PSOne classic, Bishi Bashi Special.

Originally released in 2000, Bishi Bashi Special is the definitive party game, and comprises over 80 fun mini-games - each madder than the last. Converted from two of Konami's Japanese arcade machines - Super Bishi Bashi and Hyper Bishi Bashi - the compilation is designed to test the player's reactions, timing and stamina.

As the name suggests, some involve simply bashing the controller buttons as quickly as possible, while others require pixel-perfect movement and extreme hand-eye coordination. All, however, are tremendous fun and doubly so when played against a friend.

The events go by such names as Juggler Panic, Burger Girl, Ladder of...
