109w ago - Today The Street (linked above) has interviewed Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer, who states that PS3 hackers have not held them back despite numerous PlayStation Network disruptions over the last year.
He believes that they were the victim of a sophisticated vendetta orchestrated by elements within the hacking community, stating it was a revenge attack, due to them going after a PS3 hacker who exploited the PlayStation 3 console. Below is an excerpt from the interview, to quote:
NEW YORK (TheStreet) - Sony (SNE) has bounced back from a wave of hacking attacks on its PlayStation business earlier this year, according to CEO Sir Howard Stringer, who says that digital assaults are an occupational hazard for major firms.
“The press was on us for four days until somebody else got hacked and everyone realized that hacking is a fact of life,” he said, during a briefing event organized by The Wall Street Journal. “We took it on the chin over and over again - the problem that we have is that we were alone out there, so nobody had anything else to write about that month.”
Sony’s security travails certainly grabbed plenty of headlines. In May, the company confirmed that it was the victim of a massive denial-of-service attack, likely timed to coincide...

121w ago - Hothead Games Producer Mike Inglehart has confirmed today that The Baconing is hitting PSN Play on August 30, 2011.
To quote: I am really excited to be able to share some insight on our exciting and meaty game The Baconing coming out August 30th, 2011 as part of the PSN Play promotion, which runs until September 19th!
I have been lucky enough to work in the industry for over 11 years now but never did I imagine working on a game with an epic title like The Baconing! I mean, everyone loves bacon and now the fan favorite food has made its way into gaming.
The Baconing is an action RPG which stars everyone's favorite Vanquisher of Evil, DeathSpank. The story revolves around DeathSpank wearing all six Thongs of Virtue which unfortunately summons an evil version of himself in the AntiSpank.
Now our hero must seek out the Fires of Bacon and burn five of the Thongs, which will allow him to weaken and defeat the evil giant, bringing peace back to Spanktopia.
The one thing I really enjoyed about working on The Baconing is that the game does not take itself too seriously. We had a ton of laughs creating characters, quests and in the studios during the voice recordings.
130w ago - Sony's Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein has shared a PS Vita preview and details today on Hot Shots Golf (working title).
To quote: When I first laid eyes on the PS Vita in January, I was floored by UNCHARTED (now officially dubbed UNCHARTED: Golden Abyss), eager to try Super Stardust Delta with dual analog sticks, and mesmerized by the use of AR in Reality Fighters.
But I knew that the game I'd be coming back to on flight after flight, year after year, would be Hot Shots Golf.
I've easily sunk hundreds of hours into the Hot Shots Golf series dating back to the PS2 days, with the majority of that time on the PSP's Open Tee line. Based on what I've played of Hot Shots Golf, the hours will keep piling up on PS Vita.
The first thing I noticed was how the game's cheerfully colorful visuals benefit from the PS Vita's stunning OLED display. Don't compare it to the PSP's Open Tee series; Hot Shots Golf's visuals on the PS Vita are even more polished than those of PS3's Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds. Gorgeous character lighting, dazzling water effects, fluttering birds, swirling leaves – this is as pretty a day on the links are you're likely to see.
