PS2 HDD Support & Discless ELF Launching from PS3 XMB WIP

1000°
211w ago - Here is my WIP project on PS2 HDD support and discless ELF launching from the PS3 XMB. First off I'd like to thank w1zard0f07 for being able to at least try helping me out with this one.

Over the last month or so I have been working on a little trick for the Phat Model PS3s. In summary FFXI is PS2 title that requires PS2 HDD support which is added via [Register or Login to view links] ([NPIA00001] PS2 System Files).

From there a "PS2 partition is made", which translates to an IMAGE.DAT file being made to exactly 12GB (according to GameOS/FTP this file is 0kb large)

The contents of this HDD is listed in the attached "Blank PS2 HDD.txt" (The partition list is corrupted according to w1zard0f07, quote "APA partition table on your dump file is broken")

The XMB icon is not launchable by this point, and requires the PlayOnline Viewer to be installed. This undergoes a certificate process, and then continues to install PlayOnline viewer to the "PS2 HDD." It is after this point the XMB icon is launchable, and goes straight into the PS2 mode reading from PP.SCUS-97269.1000.POLVIEWER and launching...

However, interestingly, he says that the game will continue to install and decompress data throughout the course of your playtime and the actual disk space taken by the game on your PS3 will be a lot more.

Kindly note that this installation is optional and you can play the game without doing this. It only requires 256 MB of your HDD if you decide against doing it but it's highly...

Guide: How to Run PS3 Games with 4+GB Files from External HDD

1250°
222w ago - Today PSGroove has shared details courtesy of [Register or Login to view links] on how to run PS3 games which contain 4+GB files from an external PlayStation 3 FAT32 HDD.

Those interested can check out the guide below, and be sure to share your results in our PS3 JailBreak Game Compatibility List.

To quote: Due to FAT32 limitations users needed to run these games from internal hard drive only. However, it seems that isn't the only option anymore. Many games utilize a file format known as PSARC (*.psarc).

These files ending in .psarc are archive files similar to zip or rar files on PC. By extracting these large archive files and using the smaller files that are inside, users can get stay under the 4GB limit.

This method has been tested on Uncharted II, and will only work on games utilizing the psarc file format.

1) Download PSARC.zip PlayStation Archive Utility (or the PARC GUI v0.1 or the PARC GUI v0.2 update by TeamKidneyBean...
