264w ago - Gian Luzio, Play.com's head of games, says Grand Theft Auto IV has become the online store's fastest selling game ever, while specialist UK retailer Game has labeled the title's launch "phenomenal".

"GTA IV is the fastest selling game ever on Play.com and has broken the record previously held by GTA San Andreas," Luzio told Next-Gen on Thursday.

He said that sales had been "neck and neck" between the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game building up to release, but that in the last couple of days the 360 version had been "creeping ahead in daily sales". He did add that "the PS3 GTA IV hardware bundle sold out within 24 hours."

Both versions of the title are temporarily out of stock, but Luzio said that customers shouldn't have too long to wait before they can pick up a copy.

"We are receiving regular shipments from Take-Two and they have handled the biggest game release admirably. Congratulations to all of them for doing such a great job in difficult circumstances (enough groveling, give me more stock!)."

While business has been booming in recent weeks for UK videogame retailers, with the likes of Mario Kart Wii, Wii Fit and now GTA IV bringing in the pounds, Luzio said that the latter half of the year may yet prove to be even...

264w ago - Here is a little how-to guide on how to run Grand Theft Auto at 1080p on the PlayStation 3. If you have a 1080p set and the game keeps booting up in 720p all you need to do is disable the other resolutions, I will show you how to do that now...

Go to to the display option under settings
Select video output settings
Select HDMI
Select custom
Untick 1080i and 720p
Press X
Press X again
Select finish
Launch game

Please note that you need a 1080p HDTV in the 40" range and preferably connected via HDMI.

264w ago - A Rockstar customer service representative has issued the following statement regarding the freezing issues PS3 owners of GTA IV have experienced:

"A patch is being worked on around the clock to address the issues. It's bound to be. That's how they address this sort of thing. It is being worked on. We're looking into it. You will hear from us if a patch is released. A patch is usually the way it's been done."

The rep also said that they have not been told what is causing the game to freeze and that they are "devoid of information at the moment".

Completely remove the game from the system but leave saves behind.

Turn the console off for 15 minutes without any cables plugged in, then turn it on and try again.

Play without access to the Internet.

Turn off the auto save function and the controller vibration setting.

264w ago - VG Chartz has today announced that according to their early sell-through data, Grand Theft Auto 4 has sold a record 2.5 million units in its first day of sales.

GTA IV has been universally acclaimed upon release and the titles day 1 sales places the title in the upper echelon of industry hits - those that are universally loved by both critics and by casual gamers.

Data for the first day of GTAIV sales shows that the game sold roughly at a 6:4 ratio in favor of Xbox 360 to PS3 in the Americas. While that means the game sold better on Xbox 360, it had a higher attach rate on PS3 - the same story was the case in the UK according to an earlier report by Chart Track.

At $60 per unit for the standard game and $90 for the special edition and around 1/4 of all games bought being at the higher price, Rockstar is looking at around $170 million in day one Americas revenue. For comparison, Microsoft stated that Halo 3 saw $170 million in sales revenue day one so it seems at this point the combined Xbox 360 and PS3 sales for GTA IV are about on par with Halo 3.

Super Smash Brothers Brawl recently sold over 900,000 units in the Americas day one and went on to sell almost 1.6 million units week one. A similar pattern for GTAIV would push the title to over 4 million units in the Americas for week...

264w ago - If you didn't know, Grand Theft Auto IV on the PlayStation 3 has been having some online issues. We are happy to say the game is back online and can now be played in multiplayer matches.

What are you waiting for, get off onAXIS and go play on of the fourteen multiplayer modes. Yes, fourteen.

Although I got to say, now that I'm finally online I am a bit disappointed with the character creation. There is so little choice (roughly 4 choice to select for each piece of body wear and face).

I'm not that far in, but do you unlock more for your online character as you progress through the game?
