Shantae: Half-Genie Hero is Coming to PS3, PS4 and PS Vita in 2014

50°
63w ago - WayForward Creative Director Matt Bozon confirmed that Shantae: Half-Genie Hero is coming to PS3, PS4 and PS Vita platforms in 2014.

To quote: Next year, [Register or Login to view links] is bringing the highly animated action adventure series [Register or Login to view links] to PS3, PS4, and PS Vita in the form of a brand new game: [Register or Login to view links]!

Since there's a good chance you're hearing about Shantae for the first time, here's a bit of background. Shantae is the name of the half-genie main character who carves through enemies with her destructive ponytail, and belly dances to transform into mythological creatures, animals, swords... and well, pretty much anything. There aren't many games that include the art of sensual dance as a main game mechanic, but Shantae pulls it off nicely.

The gameplay is best compared to Super Metroid or Castlevania Symphony of the Night, but with the visual styling of WayForward's own Ducktales: Remastered. WayForward puts its traditional feature film style animation in the front row along side rock solid gameplay, which has its roots firmly planted in the 8 and 16 bit era of classic gaming. WayForward's engine moves the...

Nicalis Details Legend of Raven for PlayStation Vita Handheld

50°
65w ago - Today Tyrone Rodriguez at Nicalis detailed Legend of Raven for the PlayStation Vita handheld console.

Below are the details, to quote: Fighting and PS Vita fans, rejoice! If you follow great PS Vita games, you probably know that Legend of Raven, the high-speed, 2D fighter, is coming later this year. And if you don't know about Legend of Raven, where have you been?

Legend of Raven features an awesome, hard-rocking guitar soundtrack, beautifully drawn characters and backgrounds, and gameplay to rival some of the best 2D fighters available today.

Headed to PSN, Legend of Raven will give you guys and girls the opportunity to go head-to-head locally (via Ad Hoc) with your friends.

A super-unique color commentary system emulates that old arcade experience. I'm sure some of you remember going to arcades or watching tournaments, seeing AND hearing the action.

It's just like that, except without the shoulder-to-shoulder crowds. Literally, the in-game commentary will pop-up from time to time when you're clobbering an opponent with a vicious combo or finishing them off with a super move.

For those among us who want to learn a bit more about how the controls work, Legend of Raven features a four-button attack system and two varieties of punches and...

Video: Assassin's Creed IV on PS4: A Truly Next-Gen Experience

350°
66w ago - Ubisoft Community Developer Gabriel Graziani posted up a video today showcasing Assassin's Creed IV on PS4, proclaiming it is a truly next-gen experience on PlayStation 4.

To quote: A lot of people have asked us what kinds of technical advancements can be expected from Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag on PS4, so we asked Associate Producer Sylvain Trottier to give us a couple of examples...

He went a little nuts, and delivered an entire video detailing a ton of improvements.

CAUTION: Things are about to get a little techy, so put on your coder hats!

Some of the highlights include our use of real Beaufort scale waves for a realistic ocean and the new sea engine, which follows real world physics. Complex shaders work to give the ocean that translucent appearance.

Each raindrop is an individually lit object, puddles accurately mirror the world around them and volumetric fog accepts and reflects light from different sources. Dynamic Navmeshes (three dimensional objects you can run around on) ensure that you can jump from one ship to another without encountering weird collision issues, and can seamlessly interact between two ships involved in a boarding action.

We can use the...

Video: The Dark Sorcerer: A Next-Gen Comedy E3 2013 Trailer

50°
79w ago - Quantic Dream Director David Cage announced news today on The Dark Sorcerer: a next-gen comedy at E3 2013 alongside a video trailer below.

To quote: We Love Prototypes

In 2005, Quantic Dream started working on a short film in real-time 3D called The Casting, using the PS3 graphic engine we had just developed.

Our initial objective was to make a technical prototype to test the limits and performance of this new engine, but Sony, with whom we had not yet started working, quickly encouraged us to present it publicly at its booth at E3 in order to illustrate the graphic potential of the PS3, which was launched that same year.

Everything we learned from making the short, particularly the immense difficulty of creating emotion in real time, but also the importance of the actor's performance, facial motion capture, the challenge of lip synchronization and especially eye animation, would enable us to develop Heavy Rain.

After this somewhat fortuitous first effort (which succeeded in attracting the attention of the press and players, and largely contributed to creating interest in the small French company that is Quantic Dream), the idea of making it a recurrent principle quickly developed.

After all, our prestigious and infinitely more talented...

Daylight: Procedurally Generated Psychological Horror on PS4

250°
80w ago - Zombie Studios Communications Manager Collin Moore is here with a peek at Daylight for PS4: procedurally generated psychological horror on PlayStation 4!

To quote: E3 is upon us, and Zombie Studios is ready to scare the PlayStation community when [Register or Login to view links] comes to PlayStation 4 early 2014.

A couple months ago, we flew out to PAX East with a pre-alpha build of our latest game Daylight. When you show your game off for the first time, you really aren't sure what people will think! The entire weekend we would watch curious gamers walk up to Daylight. After a brief tutorial we'd just sit back and watch - anxiously waiting to see what would happen.

Over and over we saw people jump, scream, yell, and one person even ripped off their headphones, took a couple steps back, and looked right at us as if they saw a ghost. Right then and there we knew we had something special. Now we are excited to share that with our fans on PS4!

For those that might not have heard of Daylight, it's a procedurally generated psychological horror game. This means each time you start the game, the entire world will be different; from the layout of the level, the location of items you find, and, most importantly, the encounters you stumble into.

You...
