Final Fantasy XIV for PS3 is Delayed Due to Technical Issues

350°
219w ago - Square Enix recently announced that the PC version of Final Fantasy XIV will arrive this September while the PS3 version is delayed until March 2011, and according to FFXIV producer Hiromichi Tanaka the reason for the delay on Sony's PlayStation 3 is due to technical issues.

In a recent interview with [Register or Login to view links] he explained as follows, to quote:

"We understand the wrath of players and developers are sorry because they did everything they could to have a simultaneous release date, but unfortunately they have encountered many technical problems on the development of the game for PS3. We strive to release the game as soon as possible.

If possible, we would publish the game sooner, we would like to start as soon as possible the beta on PS3."

221w ago - During an E3 interview, Square Enix senior vice president of software development Hiromichi Tanaka has said that there are currently "no plans" to bring the game to Xbox 360.

To quote: "Currently there are no plans for a version for the Xbox 360," Tanaka told [Register or Login to view links].

"We are still talking with Microsoft about an Xbox 360 version, but at the moment we are only working on the PS3 version and Windows version."

At last year's E3, Senior Vice President of Square Enix, Shinji Hashimoto, said that "in terms of other hardware devices, including Microsoft's, we're considering all possibilities [for Final Fantasy XIV]."

We'll see if this changes in the future.

221w ago - Sony's Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein shared an interview with senior vice president of software development Hiromichi Tanaka on Final Fantasy XIV for PlayStation 3 from E3 2010 today, as follows:

After a short break, our [Register or Login to view links] coverage continues now with [Register or Login to view links].

A new trailer was shown at our E3 press conference, which we've included below. After that, our Jaffa Cake-eating colleague dropped by the [Register or Login to view links] booth for a quick chat on the console-exclusive PS3 edition of this MMORPG.

So I was just passing through the Square Enix booth at E3 and I noticed a door slightly ajar. I can never resist a slightly ajar door so I poked my head in to find Hiromichi Tanaka, senior vice president of software development, sitting down for a Final Fantasy XIV round table interview. There was a spare seat so I sat down, whistling behind a newspaper, and asked a few questions of my own.

As an extra titbit, there was PC monitor running the game in stereoscopic 3D in the same room, although Tanaka told me that this was purely a technical demonstration and he wouldn't be drawn when I asked if they...

Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) PS3 Beta Test Sign Up Begins

550°
233w ago - Yesterday I got an e-mail from Sqare-Enix presenting Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) and informing me that the sign up for PS3 Beta tests have started.

So I want to share it with the community that every one who is interested can sign up now for the Beta test.

From the game's plot: Eorzea's nations used to be constantly at war with each other until fifteen years ago when the Garlean Empire, a mysterious nation from the east, razed the mightiest of the city-states, Ala Mhigo.

The nations decided to band together if they were to repel the invaders, but the Empire never came, leaving a state of detente throughout the land.

The resulting peace has led to a wide swath of soldiers and mercenaries suddenly without a job, and so they're now forming guilds and going by a new name: adventurers.

Finally, below is a Final Fantasy XIV "Life in Eorzea" #1 video from the launch of the new YouTube channel!

Final Fantasy XIV PS3 Beta Application in Final Fantasy XIII Game

350°
247w ago - Update: The [Register or Login to view links] site has now been updated officially to reflect this.

Last week we reported that Square Enix launched Final Fantasy XIV Beta application sign ups, however, these currently do not include the PS3 version of the title.

The good news is that Siliconera.com (linked above) has revealed that those who got their hands on a copy of Final Fantasy XIII also should have received a campaign code used to apply for the PlayStation 3 Final Fantasy XIV Beta.

As of now, there's no other way to get access to it!

To quote: "The Final Fantasy XIII bonus item does two things.

The twenty digit code packaged with the first shipment of Final Fantasy XIII gives future Final Fantasy XIV players a secret item when the MMO debuts next year.

Before that happens, the campaign code is also a ticket to apply for the PlayStation 3 Final Fantasy XIV Beta."
