Video: Breakfall Unveils Starwhal: Just the Tip Flopping to PS4, PS3

50°
34w ago - Breakfall Developer and Lead Coffee Runner Jason Nuyens unveiled Starwhal: Just the Tip is flopping to PS4 and PS3 platforms today.

Below is a video of the PlayStation title in action, and to quote: It took well until adulthood to see the creation of the development superforce now known as Breakfall, but we build games on the basis of certain shared common experiences.

It was true for the whole team that games were a huge part of our everyday lives as we grew up. Games were a primary source of entertainment, but we also share the common experience of using games as a focal point for our young, proto-nerd social lives.

Whether it was as kids whispering the latest videogame tricks in the playground, or elbowing each other on a sofa during multiplayer mayhem after school, the core idea is that games have always been a great way to bring people together.

For Breakfall's latest game, [Register or Login to view links], we tapped into our love of a number of game design paradigms (because now that we're mostly grown up nerds, we like fancy words sometimes).

Ideas like elegance in mechanics, simplicity in design, hard-hitting, impactful feel, and - naturally - burrito-wrapped...

CI Games: Lords of the Fallen on PS4: A Challenge Worth Facing

50°
34w ago - CI Games Executive Producer Tomasz Gop shared details today on CI Lords of the Fallen for PS4 who states it's a challenge worth facing!

To quote: I've seen my share of challenging games, and I loved a whole lot of them. And honestly speaking, I could never put up with so many people that quit playing them early.

But I've come around full circle to the point where I don't see their impatience as a shortcoming anymore. There's room for improvement in game design. And I believe that the team behind Lords of the Fallen on PS4 is after something that will narrow the gap between mainstream and core players. One bit at a time, that is.

First things first: we decided that if there's a main feature of Lords of the Fallen that will be complex and challenging, the rest should be more or less streamlined.

I'm not trying to say that we dumbed down anything. Take books written by Dan Brown or Harlan Coben, for example; they're not deprived of any intellectual value. They've been skillfully written for the mainstream audience, so... why not games?

Lords of the Fallen will try to tell a story without imposing it. You won't have to remember that the Fallen God's name is Adyr to face him. You won't have to memorize the names of crucial NPCs to follow their plots. But...

TowerFall Ascension on PS4: Behind the Arena on PlayStation 4

50°
40w ago - Sony Social Media Specialist Ryan Clements goes behind the arena today in TowerFall Ascension PS4 on PlayStation 4 with an interview below.

To quote: TowerFall Ascension launched on PS4 earlier this week, introducing PlayStation gamers to an addictive, challenging, and delightfully pure arena game. With an electric, competitive design and an all new, co-op Quest mode, TowerFall Ascension is a great reminder of why local multiplayer is so much fun.

I touched base with TowerFall creator Matt Thorson to hear more about what inspired TowerFall, how it feels on PS4, and what it was like working as a small indie developer. My thanks to Matt for spending time on PlayStation.Blog!

PlayStation.Blog: What inspired your original vision of TowerFall? Did you always have a competitive element in mind since the game's conception?

Matt Thorson: I tried a lot of things with TowerFall early on, with a focus on single-player gameplay. But the competitive modes just clicked, and it was obvious I had to follow the game in that direction. I realized, once I started designing the versus gameplay, that I had been thinking about local multiplayer for years. I was happy to finally have an outlet for those ideas.
