Ethan: Meteor Hunter Announced for PS Vita, PS3 Demo & Price Cut

50°
45w ago - Seaven Studio Co-founder Olivier Penot announced that Ethan: Meteor Hunter is headed for PS Vita, complete with a PS3 demo and price cut with details below.

To quote: Hey guys! You've asked for it, and it's happening! I'm happy to announce that Ethan: Meteor Hunter, often described as "when Super Meat Boy meets Braid" and released in October on PlayStation 3 and PC, will arrive on PlayStation Vita very soon!

We will announce a definitive release date soon, but expect it this spring!

Can't remember what Ethan: Meteor Hunter is about? Let me refresh your memory. You can freeze time and manipulate the world with dynamic use of physics allowing endless possibilities: overcome challenging platforms and tricky puzzles the way YOU want.

Nothing is scripted, levels can be solved in multiple ways. You'll die repeatedly but you'll enjoy it - master the one-hit kill gameplay and feel like a hero when you succeed!

The game features leaderboards (shared between PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita), 50 levels within three different worlds, secret bonuses and challenging trophies!

You will also be able to use the touch screen as it just made sense with the freeze-time feature to move objects around.

And you can use the Rear Touch Pad to rotate objects...

Video: PS Vita Dual Firmware Boot Proof-of-Concept Demo Arrives

47w ago - Today Sony PlayStation Vita hacker Katsu released a VPS Vita Dual Firmware Boot Proof-of-Concept demo video with details below.

To quote: It didn’t take long for Yifan Lu’s investigations to become useful for other hardware hackers! Our community member katsu, guided by Yifan’s precise description of the Vita’s NAND pinouts, was able to hack his PS Vita in order to boot from a previous firmware, technically performing something very similar to a downgrade. Check the video below, it’s cool and full of “electronicsporn”, like your favorite cyberpunk movie.

What katsu did was dump his firmware 2.12 (on the NAND), probably using Yifan Lu’s technique. He then copied that Firmware dump to an SD card. In the meantime, he upgraded the PS Vita to firmware 3.01. On the video, you see him inserting his SD card in a reader connected to the Vita. The Vita then reads the content of the SD card (the firmware 2.12 he dumped earlier) instead of its own 3.01 NAND.

What the hell does all of that mean? First of all, that Yifan Lu’s little experiment in the hardware world is proving successful, by providing inspiration and documentation for other talented hardware modders.

Secondly, that downgrading a PS Vita is a possibility under certain...

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Demo Out Today on PS3

50°
47w ago - Square Enix Associate Product Manager Mat Kishimoto announced that Lightning Returns with the new Final Fantasy XIII demo out today on PS3!

To quote: If you haven't been lucky enough to attend E3, San Diego Comic Con, Penny Arcade Expo, or the other shows that have hosted Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, we have good news. We're excited to announce that you can get hands-on with it in a playable demo that's dropping TODAY.

From now on, you don't have to take our word for it that this game is unlike anything Final Fantasy has ever done before, because it's finally time for you to see for yourself.

First off, downloading the demo scores you an exclusive piece of DLC that we're giving to you PlayStation fans - the Utsusemi Samurai garb - that you can use in the main game (it's not in the demo itself, so don't panic if you don't see it).

Again, this offer is exclusive to PlayStation owners too, so right off the bat you're getting something not everybody's going to get, JUST for downloading it. You can't tell, but I'm winking at you, especially at all you Final Fantasy XI Ninjas.

So what's in the demo itself? Of course, you're playing as Lightning, but you're now mysteriously tracking down her old friend Snow Villiers in the city of Yusnaan. As Lightning, it's...

48w ago - Tecmo Koei Europe Community Manager Chin Soon Sun posted up a video today announcing that Toukiden: The Age of Demons hits PS Vita next month.

To quote: Hello, hello! It's been a while. Today, I would like to talk about our upcoming title Toukiden: The Age of Demons for PS Vita. Having sold half a million copies in Japan, it's coming to North America on February 11th, 2014.

Set against a backdrop inspired by various historical periods of Japan, Toukiden tells the tale of humanity's last stand for survival.

When monstrous demons (Oni) of varying strength and size invaded the world through cracks in space and time and started attacking humans, the only opposition came from the Slayers: a caste that has always secretly protected mankind from the demons' murderous intent.

The player character (you!)

Eight years after the Oni first appeared, a brave young Slayer embarks on a journey to thin the numbers of the enemy and help humanity survive. You take on the role of this young warrior and can fully customize their appearance, weapons and armor, and form a group of hunters to take down the destructive Oni.

Slayers

The Slayers organization has secretly...
