Metroid Prime Devs Eye XBox 360 and PS3 for Future Games

50°
314w ago - Three key devs behind Nintendo's Metroid Prime series have formed a new studio called Armature, under the publishing flag of Electronic Arts.

What does that mean for us gamers, exactly? It means the prime (hah) talents behind Metroid are now free to develop games for non-Nintendo platforms.

The devs heading Armature Studios - Mark Pacini, Todd Keller and Jack Matthews, (who were the former Game Director, Art Director, and Principal Tech Engineer of the Metroid franchise, respectively) - have expressed interest in the PS3 and 360. Says Pacini:

From my stand point, I've never worked on any other console. I've always made games for Nintendo. I'm reinvigorated. I'm really excited about what other opportunities are out there. How can we use Xbox Live? How can we use the power of the PS3?

I think it really opens it up. I'm not saying it was by any means restrictive working for Nintendo. We had this palette to work on, the Wii and the DS, but now we have everything.

Personally I'm looking forward to see what they have in store for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. Not that I don't think the Wii is a capable platform, but it lacks the processing power its competition has. I'd like to see what the devs can do with that extra power.

Does this...

Reeves: Play PS3 games while listening to streaming Vidzone movies

200°
317w ago - Worried that PS3's streaming Vidzone music videos were going to get in the way of your games? SCEE president David Reeves is here to quell the fear.

"People said, 'I wish I could listen to the music, and see it as well,'" Reeves told us, speaking at Games Convention in Leipzig last week.

"Because you can listen to it - you don't have to see the music video - and play your game at the same time. And that to them was very important."

The Vidzone service - which allows streaming of music videos to all PS3 users in Europe for free - is to launch early next year. A download service for similar content is scheduled to hit towards the end of 2009.

Video: PS3 HDD-Supported Games running from the HDD

100°
318w ago - The video shows:

- Warhawk running from HDD
- no PKG version
- no WH disc while WH is running
- Motorstorm running as proxy disc
- legal way

I wont explain the details here till the project is finished 100%, also cuz many devs want to take a look at first and not get it patched that fast. I can say that if all will work like I want it to you'll need:

- "special" game dump of the game you want to play from HDD
- one (any) original bd game
- 2x minimum 60GB HDD's (illegal way - it worx but its not allowed in most countrys - its working like a packed game on psp memory stick)

OR

-1 60GB HDD + original disc (legal way - no need to be inserted while playing)

Im using newest firmware PAL 60GB SKU. 3 games tested yet - working.
Games which should be possible from the knowledge i got yet:

- Warhawk
- Motorstorm
- Resistance
- GT5
- COD3
- ...

I cant check more atm, as I dont have else here. The final way will be a bit different than the video shows. Even there are 2 different ways then to do it, thats because there are 2 different groups of games. One can be done with 1 HDD but then you need the original disk of the game.

E3 2008 Expo Games: Doom 4, not coming to PlayStation 3

50°
325w ago - Doom 4 has quite a legacy to live up to. Doom certainly wasn't the first successful FPS, but it is definitely one of the most influential.

Follow-ups Doom II: Hell on Earth and Doom 3, as well as 3's expansion pack Resurrection of Evil, only continued to satisfy fan expectations.

With id Software co-founder and Doom's architect John Carmack on board, the coming fourth adventure in the series will hopefully be the best one yet.

Doom 4 is currently slated to be released on PC and Xbox 360 platforms only.
