Sony Ericsson Experia X1 is a little Thick

50°
323w ago - When looking at an alternative phone to the iPhone or 3G versions, you may want to take a look at the Sony Ericsson Experia X1 because it does sport from advantages.

We are still waiting for the Experia X1 to have a price and carrier announced, this would likely be AT&T or T-Mobile later this year.

What we like about the Experia X1 is the option of both a high-resolution touch-screen and hardware QWERTY keyboard as navigation options.

The keyboard slides from under the display and will appeal to those that love real buttons to press, although the touch screen will give the phone the benefits of more keys if they update the software in the future or add 3rd party add-ons.

Some people might find this a better option than just having a touch screen like on the Apple iPhone but there are problems with this, you should be aware that the hardware keyboard makes the Experia X1 about a quarter-inch thicker than other touch-screen phones.

If you do not mind a cell phone that's a little on the thick side, then this could be the choice if your looking for an iPhone alternative. Users looking for thin phones will not like the Experia X1 as it could mean a difference of 40 percent.

Another feature that could help you decide is the OS; this phone has Windows Mobile...

Sony PS3 catching up to Wii sales

50°
323w ago - Nintendo Co Ltd's (7974.OS: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) Wii game console once again outsold Sony Corp's (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) PlayStation 3 in Japan in June, but its lead is fading, a game magazine publisher said.

Wii outsold the rival console by 1.7-to-1, making it the No1 game console for a seventh consecutive month, Enterbrain said, but that was well short of the 6-to-1 lead the Wii had in May.

The launch in June of Konami Corp's (9766.T: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) highly anticipated 'Metal Gear Solid 4' for the PS3 helped stir demand for the Sony machine, the magazine said.

Nintendo sold 235,990 units of its Wii console in the five weeks ended June 29, while sales of the PS3 came to 139,494 units, Enterbrain said. Microsoft Corp's (MSFT.O: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) Xbox 360 trails the pack, with sales of 10,964 units.

Despite its strong performance in June, the PS3 has a lot of catching up to do in total sales around the world. Sony has sold 12.85 million units of its latest console worldwide by the end of March, or just half the Wiis sold since the rival consoles were both launched in late 2006.

For handheld game players, Sony sold 274,131 of its PlayStation Portable during the five-week period,...

Sony Explains Importance of First-Party Exclusives

50°
324w ago - First-party exclusives are getting rarer these days, with staggered releases being the preferred method of temporary exclusivity by publishers.

Sony head honcho Shuhei Yoshida recently talked about how the new dynamic makes first-party exclusive titles that much more important for the company.

"In this generation, it costs much more to develop one product, it's just natural for third-party publishers trying to recoup the investment from multiple platforms," he told ThreeSpeech.

"I think that's pure economic pressure, pushing most of the third parties to move from some exclusive games to more multi-platform titles."

"Because we know that is the trend, we, as a company, can invest in our first-party studios; in terms of exclusives, our role becomes more important," explained Yoshida.

Rumor: PS3 Firmware 2.41 due out Midweek says Sony

100°
324w ago - The huge in-game XMB PS3 update that was pulled from PSN last week following technical issues will be re-released for download by Wednesday, CVG has been told.

According to customer support, Firmware version 2.41, which should be clear of all errors, will out "midweek", although Sony has yet to make an official announcement to confirm that.

In case you missed it, Sony last week was forced to pull the much-anticipated update after widespread reports of it breaking PS3 consoles.

The Firmware is available to download from various Web sites on the Internet (like HERE), but to be on the safe side you'd be best to wait for the update from Sony.
