Sony: Eight Days to full production, Getaway in pre-production

50°
325w ago - Sony's London Studio recently revealed to a British paper that Eight Days is now ramping up to full production. The game was first shown at Sony's E3 2006 press conference and is a crime epic set in the desert of Arizona.

The studio also revealed that a small team is working on pre-production for the next iteration of The Getaway. When Eight Days is completed the bulk of the team will then work on The Getaway.

To quote: A crime epic from SCE Studios London. Set in the desert of Arizona, the game features eight days in the bad times of the criminal element.

The game features open environments that you can run in, with fully-modeled buildings that you can exploit when the action gets too heavy on the streets and outskirts.

How to get the most out of your PS3!

327w ago - Just when you think Sony has shown its hand, it pulls out another wild card. Criticized at first for trying to cram too many features into the box and raising the price tag, Sony has continued to deliver even more features while cutting the cost.

While not every model of the PS3 has the full suite of features (memory card readers, WiFi), there are still more than enough new features to help you get the most out of your expensive PS3 purchase. And what Sony doesn't provide, crafty users are there to supplement.

Here are a few of the things we think will help you get started being a PS3 connoisseur.

Say Goodbye to DRM:

iTunes or Napster addicts know what a pain it is to pay for music and then find that you can't listen to it wherever you want. Thanks to DRM technology built into the audio files (something iTunes is slowly abandoning), you normally can't stream those files from your PC to your PS3, thus enjoying your music library in the comfort of your living room.

Well, now you can. After downloading Orb's Mycast technology onto your PC (which you can get for free through WinAmp Remote), and assuming you've already synced up your PC and PS3 over your home network, those music files will now be fully playable on the PS3. Problem solved.

Lite-On DH-401S can read Sony PS3 game discs!

300°
327w ago - We received this tip via e-mail today: Jan70 (an Administrator) of CDFreaks.com has reported that the Lite-On DH-401S drive can read Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) game discs!

Sure, we've been dumping PS3 images since 6 days after the U.S. launch HERE, however, the big difference is that now users won't have to do it through Linux nor via PS3 SAK anymore... providing they own a Lite-On DH-401S drive.

Of course this doesn't mean they are playable on retail PS3 consoles though (like Linux/SAK image dumps, the PS3 sees the media as a data disc instead of a game disc).

VERY nice find Jan70, and below are a few screenshots and a directory layout for Lost Planet!

Volume in drive N is LOSTPLANET
Volume Serial Number is F29E-03F1

Has Sony Europe messed things up yet again?!

250°
327w ago - So, we got the new PS Store today... in short, it's lovely. From the little 'plinky' piano sound when it opens, to the nice fading page animations - it's a joy to navigate.

However, while navigating is a joy, Sony Europe have made their usual hash of things - their categorization completely sucks.

On the UK store the main categories are:

Latest
All Games
Game Add-Ons
Videos
PSP Games
Family Games
'other' media (what?!)
We recommend

This is just crazy... so if you're looking for a demo, you need to either go to latest, or if it's not there, look in all games - which are sorted into sub groups by genre, not title. Also, all PSOne games are mixed in with the genres... so if you want a PSone game you need to find it in the melange of other titles... is Sony Europe bonkers?

On the USA store:

New Releases
Downloadable Games
View All by Title
Add-ons
Demos
Videos
Themes and Wallpapers
Featured Items

These categories make perfect sense - you can find the same piece of content multiple ways, and if you go to 'downloadable games' the titles are split by platform (PS3, PSP, PS Eye, PSone Classics) and other sorting (top downloads, genre, alphabetical)......

Sony Senior Vice President talks PSN; Network Cards shipping!

50°
327w ago - Sony Senior Vice President Peter Dille has been talking about their plans for the Playstation Network this year on the US PlayStation Blog.

Information revealed included that: we can expect fewer arcade remakes and more original content on the PSN, they're committed to brining in-game access to XMB features, PlayStation Cards are currently shipping to retailers nationwide and will be available in denominations of $20 and $50 starting this spring.

To quote: It has been a while since I last wrote on the blog. I've been looking to take the opportunity to talk about PLAYSTATION Network and thought today's availability of the redesigned PLAYSTATION Store would be the perfect entry point to outline what we have planned for the broader PLAYSTATION Network this year.

First off, we're excited about the new look and feel of the PLAYSTATION Store. Personally, I've been looking forward to this update for a long time as, in my view, the previous PLAYSTATION Store experience wasn't one that lived up to our brand. But this new UI is much more dynamic and allows us to elegantly display and merchandise a lot more content, which is very important today, but will be critical going forward with so much great new content coming onto the Store. We look forward to hearing your input and reaction...
