Here is a proof of concept video to show it can be accessed from other countries. Thanks for screwing us EU users AGAIN SONY!!!

Sony's Big Plans for MMO Gaming on the PlayStation 3

200°
319w ago - Sony is planning on bringing gamers together in a bigger way than ever before. The PlayStation E3 2008 press conference introduced large scale multiplayer gaming plans for the PS3 with MAG, short for "Massive Action Game." The game is touting 256 player battles. It's a big effort in itself, but not the only one planned for the PS3.

Sony Online Entertainment's PS3 games will also support MMO and persistent gaming (where things keep happening in the world while you're away). Games like The Agency and DC Universe Online will offer co-op and competitive play. The Agency will offer an almost ARG (alternate reality gaming) experience, with communications from characters spanning beyond the game itself (websites, cellphone communicaitons and text messages). Watch for more details on those here soon.

PlayStation Home will support up to 64 gamers per area at a time. Home will allow gamers to gather 'round a pond for a race with remote control boats. In the E3 showcased Home themed environments, there was an Uncharted: Drake's Fortune home. You can hang out in a back patio and meet other gamers to share tips.

What I'm getting at is that Sony is definitely planning a big push for MMO/persistent gaming on the PLAYSTATION 3 in ways console gamers haven't experienced before. That vibe was definitely one...

Rumor: Sony making unique Trophies Mandatory in 2009

300°
319w ago - According to an anonymous development source, Sony will be making the inclusion of trophies mandatory with the release of each new PS3 title going forward in 2009. Doesn't sound too far fetched to us, considering that trophies are essentially Sony's answer to Xbox 360 achievements.

What's interesting, though, is that Sony may be requiring a certain level of variation in regards to trophies. Meaning, if a third-party dev studio is working on a multi-platform project for both PS3 and Xbox 360, they won't be able to simply recycle all of the same challenges in each version of the title.

To quote: While not every game may include Trophies for now, at least one major developer tells Joystiq that Sony's answer to Achievements will be "mandated" by Sony for every new PS3 release in 2009.

This isn't entirely unexpected given recently-revised comments by PSN director of operations, Eric Lampel. What's more interesting, however, is that the developer, which is currently working on an early 2009 release, is also hearing that Sony may be enforcing some measure of uniqueness between spoils earned on its console versus the Xbox 360.

Commented to developer, "We've heard some things that make it sound like we will have to do some unique to PS3 Trophies...this is all very new to us." While...

Tretton: Sony Considering PSP with Hard Drive

400°
319w ago - According to Jack Tretton, Sony is considering a PSP with a hard drive. Tretton reportedly said that "with the recently announced ability to purchase movies on a PlayStation 3 and move them over to a PlayStation Portable, and as the cost of memory continues to drop, the chance that a new PlayStation Portable would include some sort of internal storage option is becoming increasingly likely."

To quote: Sony has thought about and continues to play around with the idea of building a PlayStation Portable with a built in hard drive or internal memory, Jack Tretton, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, said this morning at a gather of game writers.

"I think we definitely thought about it," he said. "I think that's the trend moving forward."

With the recently announced ability to purchase movies on a PlayStation 3 and move them over to a PlayStation Portable, and as the cost of memory continues to drop, the chance that a new PlayStation Portable would include some sort of internal storage option is becoming increasingly likely, Tretton said.
