50°
259w ago - Today GamesIndustry.biz (linked above) is reporting news that digital developers are being offered the opportunity to compete for grants of 10,000 GBP to create content for Sony's PlayStation Network.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe will host a three-day pitching event in October, in conjunction with Pixel-Lab and Northwest Vision, with successful companies awarded the grant, executive production and mentoring with SCEE, as well as the chance to take the project further and pitch to XDev Studio Europe.

To quote: "It was reassuring to see a commitment of public funding like this from Northwest Vision & Media and it's clearly helped the teams involved strengthen their skills in many areas," offered Phil Gaskell, senior producer at XDev Studio Europe. "I'm confident we'll be taking some of the ideas generated through this initiative to market."

Toby Barnes, managing director of Pixel-Lab added: "We were really pleased with the final quality of the pitches last year, the teams had made huge leaps in terms of understanding the commissioning process, their audiences, and what was expected of them.

We are really looking forward to this year's new entrants and are expecting the bar to be even higher."

No dates yet, of course, but presumably we'll see these on our Store sooner rather than later."

260w ago - Fluffy Logic's Producer Ana Kronschnabl has announced news that a Savage Moon PS3 update and expansion is now available on PSN.

To quote: We wanted to say a big thanks to those of you who have taken the trouble to email us with feedback, ideas and suggestions.

Where possible we have incorporated some of your ideas into the new update of the game, now available. Amongst other things, the update includes:

•Re-balancing of the stats, including an upgraded Amp Tower with stats more similar to the first release of the game. Other tweaks to the stats make level 4 a bit more forgiving.
•A new 'Training Mode' that allows all the levels to be played as before, but the overall gameplay is a bit easier (but you can't save these scores to the high-score table).
•We have added custom soundtrack support, so you can blast Insectocytes to the tunes of your choice.

We would also like to tell you a bit more about the new expansion for Savage Moon - Waldgeist. If you are wondering, the name is German and translates as '[Register or Login to view links]' and in pagan times Waldgeists (is that the plural?) were believed to be the custodians of the forest. As the new levels in...
