GDC '09: XBox 360 Gets Little, PS3 Gets MGS & Ratchet Games

50°
278w ago - The Game Developers Conference is winding down and all has not been lost as several new games have been announced. The conference for the most part was made up of sessions where developers shared new insight into best practices into game development.

Surprisingly Microsoft's camp stayed fairly quiet, while Sony's side was making a bit of ruckus with a tease of a Metal Gear game from Kojima and a new Ratchet & Clank announcement.

Hideo Kojima, the genius behind the Metal Gear games was the keynote speaker at the GDC. Kojima was presented with the lifetime award from GDC, which is the prestigious award honoring those who have made significant contributions to the game industry. Let's face it, not too many individuals can actually take credit for creating a genre.

Kojima wanted to share his 20 some plus years of experience in the game industry by describing his journey as a game developer. He also shared his development methodology as well as shed some light on future ideas. The keynote speech ended with a stunning statement - Mission: The Next MGS.

Next to the caption there was a small picture of Raiden. As I speculated yesterday, this could mean that Kojima may make a new iteration or spin-off with Raiden as the main character.

Another new game that was...

Video: PS3 40GB Service Mode Console Running PS2 Games

650°
286w ago - Today D3M0N2009 shared a video from earlier this month courtesy of sonyk0 via YouTube.

The video from DemonHades demonstrates that PS3 40GB Service Mode consoles can actually play PS2 games, but the feature isn't unlocked for the retail counterparts to date.

As most suspect, Sony has been working on a PS2 software emulator for quite some time (since Firmware 2.5x), so the question is really when and how they will introduce it publically.. perhaps via PSN Store PS2 title updates, or just include it in a Firmware update, etc.

Those interested can check out the video below, enjoy!

PS2 Games on PS Store via PS3 Firmware Compatibility Update?

300°
294w ago - For the time being this is simply a rumor, however, French site JV247.com (linked above) is reporting that a game publisher told them Sony was planning to add PlayStation 2 backwards compatibility in a recent PlayStation 3 Firmware Update... but pulled it at the last minute.

They continue to mention that it may be added in a future update, and that we may see PlayStation 2 games on the PlayStation Store.

Adding fuel to the rumor is news that the original Medal of Honor and the ESRB-rated PlayStation 2 game "Rayman 2: Revolution" are slated for the PlayStation 3, which usually means they're going to pop up on the PlayStation Store at some point in the future.

As always, more details to come as they are available!

Sony, Please Fix the 80022d11 Error - PS3 Games are Unplayable!

50°
294w ago - Warning: Changing your PSN email or password via the PS3's XMB account management tool will corrupt your save files! Sadly, PlayStation 3 Firmware Update 2.53 does NOT resolve this issue.

There is a large thread (linked above) over at the PlayStation forums regarding error 80022d11 (save file created by another user).

Once this occurs, trying to load a save file for a game that supports trophies will give you the option to either start over (wipe the save file) or sync trophies (which fails). At this point trophies will no longer work and save game files for any game that supports trophies will no longer load.

The only work around at this point is to delete your PS3 user account (not to be confused with your PSN user account) and create a new one (which you can link to your existing PSN account).

Once this is done your trophies will sync, but you will lose all your saved games. If you try to restore any saved games you made before doing this, the error will occur again.

The problem appears to be triggered if the user changes his/her email address or password using the XMB account management tools. So until Sony fixes this problem, users should not change their...

2K Games: BioShock PS3 Patch Coming to Fix Texture Issues

100°
301w ago - Just over a week ago, we reported on the BioShock Demo's Texture issues.

Today, 2K Elizabeth (2K Community Manager) has reported that the 2K Development Team is working on a patch for BioShock on the PS3 which should fix all of the visual problems.

For now, she confirmed that two fixes are included relating to the Big Daddy Bouncer and Elite Bouncer Textures Appeared Pixelated and White Bars.

To quote: Hey guys,

I have good news from the dev team about a patch for BioShock PS3! They have been working on a patch to address the concerns some of you on the forum have talked about. As work is in progress I do not have a definite date for when this patch will be released as it needs to be tested and clear certification with Sony before it is scheduled and released. I do know this will not be until after the game's launch, and I will update you with details on that date as I receive them.

I'll be releasing the entire patch list when it's all finalized, but for now I'm sure you'll be happy to see that these two fixes are included.

One picture is available below, check out the link above for the other!
