550°
301w ago - News is making it's rounds on the Internet the next iteration of the PlayStation Portable, dubbed herein as "PSP 3G, is on the way.

Allegedly, it will get 3G support across the globe and will hit during April, 2009.

To quote: Don't get your hopes up, folks, but there is something of a rumor stemming from NeoGAF about the next iteration of the PlayStation Portable, dubbed herein as "PSP 3G:"

David Perry // Producer, SCEA: Also well known as the PSP-4000 or the PSP2, the new PSP model will be called PSP 3G. Unlike previous PSP models it will have a Touch Screen as well as an UMTS support, Bluetooth and a microphone. That means you will be able to use it easily as a normal mobile phone.

With its ultra compact size and design it will be not much bigger than an iPhone but it will offer you the highest gaming comfort. There wont be any UMD-drive any more but instead a keyboard with a slide mechanism though.

But of course, you will be able to download all the games From The PSN Store with the PSP 3G soon. Cooperating with Sony Ericsson, we will be able to deliver the PSP 3G in the USA and Japan by the end of April 2009. First pictures will follow tomorrow.

So, yeah. I think someone was duped somewhere. If you see this pop up, don't buy into it unless...

Why Mass Effect 2 Won't Be Coming to Sony's PS3 Console

250°
301w ago - With the news surfacing about BioWare - who is now wholly owned by Electronic Arts - formally announcing Mass Effect 2 for the Xbox 360 and PC, it has become rather obvious that this wasn't heading to the PS3 and here's a few possible reasons why.

First of all, back when BioWare wasn't owned by Electronic Arts, Microsoft had already published the first game for the Xbox 360 with intentions (much like Gears of War) to maintain a new franchised trilogy for the Xbox brand. People can argue semantics, publishing and trademark rights all they want, but consider Col. Sheppard the tertiary mascot next to Master Chief and Marcus Fenix.

It was reiterated time-over and again that Mass Effect was going to be an Xbox 360 trilogy. And even while Casey Hudson denied plans for a PC rendition of Mass Effect in an interview with Gamer 2.0, it was obvious the big bad MS wasn't going to let gold slip through their fingers...especially considering that the Games for Windows platform is utter crap and needed something good in its library.

The fact that Hudson lied about the PC version could prompt some gamers to believe that Mass Effect 2 could still be heading to the PS3. However, the difference...

Sony Considers Adding Downloadable Comic Books to PSP Store

350°
301w ago - Sony has been querying the gaming community on the viability of a possible Comic Book reader and download service for their PSP.

To quote: Surveys were sent out with the following video (see below) attached.

Though the online "comic shop" is new, viewing comics on your PSP is old hat and rather frustrating, though not nearly as much as trying to read web pages on it. What this service/function needs is an auto "frame go-to and re-sizer". Perhaps it has one, but I couldn't gleem one from the video.

I say it every time when there's a PSP story and I'm saying it again,... stop adding stupid stuff to the PSP when all I really want is a second analog stick!

NVIDIA Licenses PhysX SDK for Sony's PlayStation 3 Console

650°
301w ago - Today NVIDIA announced that its popular PhysX technology will be available to all registered Sony PlayStation 3 developers free of charge.

To quote: NVIDIA announced it has signed a tools and middleware license agreement with Sony that makes the binary version of the NVIDIA PhysX technology available to registered PS3 developers.

NVIDIA Corporation today announced that it has signed a tools and middleware license agreement for PLAYSTATION(R)3 (PS3(TM)) with Sony Computer Entertainment Inc (SCEI).

As a result, the binary version of the NVIDIA(R) PhysX(R) technology software development kit (SDK) is now available to registered PS3 developers for free download and use on the SCEI Developer Network.

The NVIDIA PhysX software development kit SDK consists of a full-featured API and robust physics engine, designed to give developers, animators, level designers, and artists unprecedented creative control over character and object physical interactions by allowing them to author and preview physics effects in real time.

The continued adoption of NVIDIA PhysX technology by the world's leading content developers is resulting in games that not only look as realistic as possible, but also provides gaming experiences where the world's literally come to life: environments become...

Rumor: Sony Developing a Colorful LED Wand for the PS2?

400°
301w ago - A US registered patent filed by Sony Computer Entertainment clues us in to a video game controller sitting somewhere in Sony's R&D labs.

The unnamed input device has a LED on the front and an external power supply. Emitted light is captured by an inexpensive camera and translated into user input data.

Sony's interface program is unique since the device produces one or more colors of light which allows greater flexibility for differently lit rooms.

To quote: Since this information was revealed in a patent we don't know how Sony plans on using said device, if it ever surfaces.

However, multiple patent diagrams showcase the PlayStation 2 which already has a cheap EyeToy camera readily available. You might be thinking Wii Remote knock off, but Sony's controller may not be a wand.

Another diagram shows a different device using the same variable color LED emitting technology. This hypothetical controller is designed to fit on a finger, radiates light from multiple LEDs, and has buttons on the side. Ring controllers... the future of video games?

What do you think about Sony's light input device interfacing program? Could it keep the PS2 going strong past 2010? Should Sony port it to the PlayStation 3? Or scrap the idea all together?
