Sony Giving Away Money in PlayStation Home

100°
296w ago - If you're in one of the regions supported by Sony Computer Entertainment Asia you can get [Register or Login to view links] if you track down the money god avatar.

$10 HKD isn't much, it's like $1.30 US, but it's interesting to see Sony run such a promotion. Sure, it's not enough to buy a PlayStation Network game, but you can get a virtual item by finding the money god. Or you can save your money and hope Sony Computer Entertainment Asia runs more of these so you can get a free game.

No word if Sony is going to try this strategy in other regions of if this is only a Sony Computer Entertainment Asia strategy.

Terms and Conditions:

- You must be a Hong Kong member or Singapore member of PlaystationŽNetwork in order to participate in the event. Each eligable PSN account can only play one time.
- The reward top-up will be transferred to the PSN account by the end of 6 Feb, 2009.
- Funds added to PSN wallet are non-refundable and non-transferable.
- SCEH has the right to alter the terms and conditions of the competition. In case of dispute, SCEH reserves the right to make final decision.

Sony: Let Me Introduce You to the Concept of PS3 Advertising

200°
297w ago - Hey Sony, you may not be aware, but you've got a shot at a mammoth year in 2009.

You've got quite the software lineup - your PlayStation 3 exclusives greatly outstrip the competition - and you've got plenty of momentum with the likes of Blu-ray, PlayStation Home, and the ever-expanding Network.

Wait... we don't need to tell you. You keep telling us. But we're not the ones you need to convince; you need to convince the mainstream populace.

As the years have progressed, you managed to chip away at the numerous arguments built against the PlayStation 3, and that includes classic complaints like lack of software, price, and Network that isn't as robust as Live.

The games are here, you've dropped the price several times (could use another one, but whatever), the Network has Home, the video delivery service is great, and an awesome set of online content awaits all owners.

But there's one last drawback that needs to be conquered: the marketing and advertising that never seems to measure up. Recently, you completely dropped the ball in pushing Resistance 2, and although you said there'd be a huge campaign for LBP... well, we haven't seen much (excluding the picture below).

In comparison to what we've seen for Gears of War 2 and other Microsoft and Nintendo...

COD 6: Hostage Multiplayer Game on Sony PS3 and XBox 360?

100°
297w ago - We have read many ideas for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, some about the weapons and others about the game type's in multiplayer. One of the best ideas we would like to see is a hostage online game.

You could save your hostages from the other team before they get killed or something along those lines. Maybe even have the hostages have the option to try and escape from their captors.

Another great idea in COD 6: is to have the lobby for the Sony PS3 and Xbox 360 updated, especially on the PS3. When you go to find match it would be good to have it setup like this:

Find Match - Countries - Core/Hardcore - Game Modes

Playlists for different countries or regions should be added because people would rather be playing against people from their own country and have a good connection, other than being thrown into a random match with people from another country and have a bad connection.

Would you like a hostage game type in multiplayer and a choice of countries when finding a match? Comment below!

Sony: PlayStation Home Was Probably Announced Too Early

200°
297w ago - When asked about the reception Home has had amongst developers, game director Peter Edward admitted to DevelopMag that the social networking service was unveiled a little too soon.

To quote: "Initially, there was real excitement from people, because we were showing something really different and that had a lot of potential. And then there's the realization that, well, we probably announced it too early - GDC 07 was a long time ago. I think there was sort of recognition amongst developers of 'Oh, this is interesting, but there's still a lot of work to be done.'"

That attitude is changing though, according to Edward. "It's mature and everybody's starting to produce some really interesting stuff. As soon as developers start seeing what other people have done, it really starts to build on the excitement."

Hopefully most will agree with Edward - the wait for Home was simply too long. Would our opinions have been different if the wait was shorter? Hopefully, as time goes on, the service will evolve into something that both gamers and developers can get really excited about.

Rumor: PS2 Software Emulator Coming to Sony's PlayStation 3

297w ago - To compliment an [Register or Login to view links] from earlier today, a member of NeoGAF known as mephesta [Register or Login to view links] he was told by a Sony rep that they may be eventually be putting out a PS2 emulator for the PlayStation 3 console.

Apparently, as the PS2 has about one year left on its life cycle, we shouldn't expect Sony to develop anything new with regards to backwards compatibility.. and they will just go out and get a PS2 emulator to put in future consoles.

To quote: The rumor comes from NeoGAF member Meph who recounts what was told to him by a Sony representative (openly described as a 'tool'). The story goes that Sony might be willing to buy a PlayStation 2 emulator for the future.

"He mentioned that since the PS2 has just 1 year left on its life-cycle not to expect them to develop anything new with regards to backwards compatibility," says Meph.

"He then leans in and lowers his voice, as if to tell me some deep dark secret and mentions that Sony may be willing to potentially buy a PS2 emulator to put in future consoles."
