Sony's press conference is leaking a little this morning, with a Gamekyo story based on a sneak look at a run-through of the event yesterday revealing that a new version of SingStar it to feature heavily in the presentation.

A crumbling tower: Sony lays siege to the 360's weak spots

295w ago - It wouldn't be accurate to say that the sky is falling for Microsoft's one and only gaming console, the 360, but it may be time to look at what the company is doing right... and where it's going wrong.

The Sony PlayStation 3 is beginning to chip away at the 360's lead in both software and hardware sales in the US, and that system only seems to be picking up steam. In contrast, the 360 doesn't seem to have much real momentum these days.

While it's hard to find ways for Microsoft to get its mojo back, we can easily identify a few problem areas that are becoming clear as the 360 ages. These are the weaknesses in Microsoft's strategy that have to be addressed before the system can hope to get its groove back. Let's take a look.

You have to find your voice
When the PS3 launched, the 360 was the system with more, better games, and the better online strategy. Microsoft also did a wonderful job in poaching some of gaming's largest franchises. Microsoft even brought this up at its press conference at E3: We have Grand Theft Auto, Devil May Cry, and now Final Fantasy! Look at how we've caught up to Sony!

The problem is, these games are still on the PlayStation 3, and Microsoft isn't offering much in the way of improvements to these titles. In fact, given that Microsoft...

Sony gives PS3 Music Peripheral Compatibility Update

100°
295w ago - SCEA's Michael Shorrock has confirmed that for the past few months they have been working very closely with the likes of Neversoft, Activision, Harmonix and Konami in order to ensure PS3 guitars and drum sets all feature a basic level of gameplay compatibility. So for example, Gutar Hero: World Tour's guitars and drums will work with Rock Band 2 and Rock Revolution software!

To quote: For the past several months, we have been working closely with Neversoft and Activision, Harmonix and Konami to ensure that PlayStation 3 guitars and drum sets will all feature a basic level of gameplay compatibility.

For the most part, this means that the titles with musical peripherals will work with the other's software. A few specific examples include: Guitar Hero: World Tour's guitars and drums will work with Rock Band 2 and Konami's Rock Revolution software.

And yes, you guessed it, Rock Band 2's guitar and drum set will work with Guitar Hero: World Tour and with Rock Revolution.

Conversely, Rock Revolution's drum set will work with both Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2.

In addition, Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2 will both support the SingStar microphones.

We're still working hard to ensure compatibility between the Guitar Hero and...

Sony and Best Buy Kiosks in the Wild

296w ago - You have probably traveled around and seen the Apple vending machines where you can buy iPods and accessories, but on Loot Ninja's recent travels to the twin cities, a.k.a. Minnesota, Loot Ninja came across two vending machines it had never seen before. Right in the Minnesota airport there was a kiosk for Best Buy Express and another not too far away for Sony. There was actually a third one that had Elizabeth Arden products as well, but we weren't as interested in perfume and cosmetics.

The Best Buy vending machine had an assortment of products that any frequent flyer may find a need for like headphones, chargers and video games. Inside there was a few Nintendo DS handhelds as well as Mario Kart and Mario Party for the DS at normal retail prices which was the real shocker, I was certain you would be charged a joy of buying in the airport fee but it was normal MSRP.

In the Sony vending machine there was also an assortment of headphones and accessories but of most important note were the Black PSP Slims, God of War, Crisis Core (which was sold out) and Patapon. Not a bad score if you are in an airport and get delayed. Had you guys seen these before?
