Killzone 2 for PS3

50°
341w ago - Believe the hype the second time around?

You know what the problem was with Killzone's original release. It was nothing to do with the quality of the gameplay or the much-touted 'startling' never-before-seen level of graphical brilliance.

Killzone was a classic case of a game that couldn't possibly live up to the hype, so it's little wonder developer Guerilla has been content only to drip-feed information, screens and footage of the sequel.

Despite this, we're optimistic that Killzone 2 will deliver everything the original promised - and then some. The war between the ISA and evil Helghast is ramped up several notches with the former taking the fight to the latter's own home world.

That's only the half of it though, as your special forces squad's dropship is quickly shot down by a lightning-firing anti-aircraft cannon the Helghast has rigged up. Their mastery of the weather and the planet's harsh conditions also poses severe problems for your struggling team once you crash-land and set out on foot. It's hell. We really want to play as the ginger-stached badass from the trailer, and the game's blind-fire cover system looks pretty damn kick-ass as well.

Killzone 2 - Beta, Vehicles & Aliens?

50°
345w ago - Usually we take rumors lightly, but this one supposedly came from the Official PlayStation Magazine(UK?). A forum member at Killzone.com claims to have gotten his hands on the latest OPM- issue number 14 which contains some interesting snippets regarding Killzone 2.

• Killzone 2 also promises the inclusion of player-controlled vehicles
• Public beta test in mid `08
•"We asked deJonge to tell us a secret, "As you know, they [Helghast] are not the only inhabitants." He won't be drawn on whether those 'other' alien inhabitants are friendly or not.

This isn't from the North American OPM publication, as we've already gotten our hands on the latest issue. We want to know more and we'll let you know if there's any truth to this as soon as possible. Stay Tuned!

Killzone 2 developer: "Blu-ray is not a luxury"

50°
354w ago - From a GamePro interview with Killzone 2 producer Steven Ter Heide yesterday:

It's pretty obvious (at least to us) that Killzone 2 has some of the best graphics ever seen. What is it about the PS3 that allows you to pull off this kind of detail? And would you say it's accurate that the in-game E3 footage surpassed the E3 2005 CG cinema?

The E3 2005 trailer was all about setting our ambition and goals for the game. We wouldn't have created that movie if we did not think we could deliver that [level of detail]....We've created our own proprietary technology to drive the game, and this is using many of PS3's specific strengths.Large quantities of data can be streamed because we have a great deal of storage capacity. This allows for the level of detail you can see in the game.

It is not a luxury to have Blu-ray, but rather a necessity, as compression only gets you so far. I mean, the level that we showed at E3 and Leipzig topped out around 2GB!
