Howard Stringer Takes Over as President of Sony Corporation

100°
289w ago - Howard Stringer, Chief Executive Officer of the Sony Corporation, just received a promotion. He is now going to be taking over as President of the main electronics business, as the former holder of that position, Ryoji Chubachi, will become Vice Chairman in charge of product safety, quality and environmental issues.

From [Register or Login to view links]: "The Japanese can't take decisive actions toward their comrades during hardship," said Yuuki Sakurai, general manager of financial and investment planning at Tokyo-based Fukoku Mutual Life Insurance Co., which manages $54 billion in assets.

"As a non-Japanese without such loyalties, Stringer is better positioned to conduct the large-scale restructuring that Sony has to do."

It is hoped that the reassignment of the 32-year Sony veteran Chubachi will help clear the way for Stringer to reorganize the company amidst losses, cutbacks, and global recession.

Press Release: Tokyo, February 27, 2009 - Sony Corporation ("Sony" or the "Company") today announced a major reorganization and a new management team. The changes, effective April 1, 2009, will fundamentally reorganize the company's electronics and game businesses to improve profitability and...

Sony Clarifies PSP2 Rumors: No New Hardware Dev Kits Available

100°
289w ago - Sony's head of PSP marketing in North America would only confirm that part of what longtime developer Dave Perry recently said about the PSP's future is true.

The following is an excerpt from an interview I conducted today with Sony Computer Entertainment of America's John Koller, the director of PSP marketing in North America.

I originally booked the phone interview with Koller to discuss the stunning line-up of PSP games Sony announced earlier this week, but by the time we talked, there was the PSP2 rumor to discuss that had been churning through the Internet ever since veteran game designer Dave Perry Twittered that a disc-free PSP2 was in the works for a possible fall release.

I'll have a lot more from Koller about the new games and the future of the PSP on Friday, but let's start here by dealing with the Dave Perry rumor. This is how I broached the topic:

MTV Multiplayer: Do you still consider Dave Perry a friend?

John Koller, Director of Hardware Marketing for the PSP: [laughs] That's a great question! I didn't even know who he was until about a month ago. I heard about [his PSP2 report] yesterday. We've never...

Rumor: Sony's PlayStation Portable 2 to Drop UMD Drive

200°
290w ago - In a recent Twitter post (linked above), Earthworm Jim creator Dave Perry hinted that Sony is planning to remove the UMD drive from their next PlayStation Portable console.. which he dubs simply PSP2.

To quote: "I hear Sony FINALLY has the PSP 2. And thank goodness, they've removed the stupid battery-sucking UMD disc drive.

I'm excited!"

11:04 PM Feb 23rd from Web

Only time will tell if this rumor pans out, however, it sounds feasible based on the [Register or Login to view links] PSP-4000 news.
