354w ago - Sony's UK boss Ray Maguire recently mentioned that in-game communication would be introduced to the PS3 this summer.

Daniel Dawkins, editor of PSM3 Magazine, has since said that this will bring the PS3 up to parity with X-Xox Live but that the key difference is that it's free.

To quote: TechRadar spoke with Daniel Dawkins, editor of PSM3 Magazine, this morning who told us: "This brings the PS3 up to parity with Xbox Live, the key difference being that it's free".

Dawkins added: "Sony is working its best to respond to what gamers want. The amount of evolution in terms of the firmware updates over the last year has been phenomenal."

TechRadar also spoke with Sony Computer Entertainment reps this morning. They informed us that they were currently not making any official announcements or issuing any further information on exactly how in-game comms on PS3 are set to be improved.

354w ago - The Interactive Audio Special Interest Group has recently revealed a preview a draft of a new open interactive audio file format called iXMF, that has been devised for interactive audio content.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe have backed the format saying "We're supporting iXMF in our new audio tools so sound designers can take advantage of the incredible audio processing power of the PS3."

To quote: iXMF is the first open file format to be devised for interactive audio content. It combines MIDI and audio data with scripting logic that defines playback behaviours, encompassing a huge amount features of modern audio engine environments in a non-proprietary format.

It is hoped that iXMF will enhance data exchange between authoring applications and let game audio engineers use the same tools as their TV and film brethren.

250°
354w ago - According to Ray Maguire, the head of Sony Computer Entertainment's UK operation, a feature labeled as in-game communication is due out this summer for the PlayStation 3, along with Firmware Update 2.4.

To quote: Our momentum will continue with the introduction of in-game communication in the summer, Firmware Update 2.4 and the strongest line-up of games through our third party partners and our own studios. I'd personally like to thank our trade and business partners for helping us on the start of the PS3 journey.

No further details were provided. However, we presume that this means PS3 owners will soon be able to chat with people on their PSN friends list while playing a game. A feature many of us have been waiting for.

Gamebryo Shows Off Boob Shadowing Technology At GDC

355w ago - If you're not familiar with Gamebryo, it's the middleware solution from Emergent Game Technologies.

Right. The only thing you, the reader, really need to know is that it's pioneering self-shadowed boobs. Subtly swaying, inhumanly massive boobs.

This is the kind of stuff GDC attendees are most excited about–a pair of perfectly rendered double Ds struggling to be free of a metal bra while having realistic shadows cast upon them. It's also part of the reason GDC is 90% dudes.

Yes, GameTrailers has extended cuts and high definition versions. Just don't watch at work.

We're checking with Konami for official word on the matter and will update with additional information soon.
