Mirror's Edge Exclusive FREE Time Trial Map Available Tomorrow

50°
308w ago - Mirror's Edge Producer Tom Farrer reminds us today that the release of the free and exclusive PlayStation 3 Time Trial map hits PSN tomorrow, and shares some of his thoughts on it as follows:

When we started Mirror's Edge we were working with abstract environments, quick test levels that we threw together so we could mess around with the moves.

Then came the game and the more realistic urban settings which were a lot of fun to work with but there was always a little voice in the back of our minds saying, "Remember when you could build any bizarre shape you wanted?"

We have been making a variety of maps for the upcoming release of the Pure Time Trial Map Pack. We didn't want to be limited by an urban setting; we wanted to "leave the city behind" and focus completely on the nature of movement itself.

The maps are all about exploring the purity of the core gameplay with nothing getting in the way.

Each map is quite different in style and had different inspirations. The look of the Sony-exclusive map "Synethesia" (that will be released separately and for free tomorrow, January 29th) was actually inspired by balloons of all things. However, we did decide to settle on an overriding theme – If Faith...

Savage Moon Coming to PlayStation 3 via PSN Tomorrow

308w ago - Today [Register or Login to view links] Producer Ana Kronschnabl shared some background on Savage Moon, which is due for release on the PlayStation Network store tomorrow as follows:

For the last few months we've been hard at work on our take on the Tower Defense genre. Although here in the UK we spell it 'defence' ;-).

If you've not played any tower defence games, you're missing out. They are a great off-shoot of real-time strategy games where the player can only build static defences and the enemy is the one on the move. Our art director, Stuart, introduced us to a few of the games on the net and needless to say, work around the office dropped to zero as we got hooked.

At the time we had been given a couple of PS3 development kits by Sony to play around with and we thought, "Wow, we'd love to do our own take on this." We threw around a few ideas then went up to see Sony and surprisingly enough, it turned out that they had been thinking exactly the same thing.

Thus Savage Moon, our first game for the PS3, was born. It is due for release on the PlayStation Network store this week for $9.99...we're very excited.

First off we wanted to give the game a bit of a story. All the tower...

Ultimate Ghost 'n Goblins Available Tomorrow on PSN for PSP!

50°
310w ago - Capcom's John Diamonon elaborated on his previous promise of a whole slew of PSP and PSOne games coming to the PlayStation Network:

To kick off 2009, I'm happy to announce that Ultimate Ghost 'n Goblins will be available tomorrow in the PSP store for $19.99. For those of you not familiar with the game, UGG is a side-scrolling platform game featuring the heroic knight, Arthur, as he battles hordes of undead in his quest to save Princess Prin Prin.

I think just having the name "Prin Prin" is reason enough for saving. UGG maintains the 2D gameplay mechanics of this classic franchise and is the only game in the series to employ 3D graphics. The graphics are beautiful and the gameplay is intuitive yet addicting, everything you want in a quality PSP game. Check out the video!

I also have a new Flock trailer. Peep these sheep!

With over 55 stages, two player co-op, level creating-editing-rating-sharing, trophy support and custom soundtracks, this game is a motherflockin' good time!

And for those in the San Francisco Bay Area, I hope to see you at the Street Fighter Fight Club this Friday. I'll be the one fitted with the new Triumvir Street Fighter Shadaloo jacket...

Crash Commando Available Tomorrow on PSN - First Strategies

100°
314w ago - EPOS Game Studios CEO Olof Gustafsson shared the first tips and strategies for Crash Commando (available on PSN tomorrow) via PS Blog as follows:

We introduced Crash Commando to you last week, and now that the game is out tomorrow on PlayStation Network, we wanted to talk more about the game modes and give you some tips about how to rack up the kills.

The game modes:
DEATHMATCH and TEAM DEATHMATCH
Free-for-all frenzies or team-based skirmishes. Reach the target score first to win! In these modes, bots can be included offline as well as online.

MAP OBJECTIVES
Map Objectives is a game mode exclusive to multiplayer. It is based on having two teams - an attacking team and a defending team. The attackers have to meet set objectives while the defenders try to stop them.

A Map Objectives game is played in steps. At the beginning only some objectives are available, and by accomplishing them, new ones become available until they have all been met and the attackers win. Points are awarded to the attacking team depending on met objectives. The defenders can win by defending efficiently to force the time to run out, since the attackers have to meet objectives to gain extra time. This means that an efficient defense can...

Dissidia: Final Fantasy Officially Launches Tomorrow for PSP

50°
314w ago - Originally announced in May 2007, Dissidia: Final Fantasy instantly intrigued Final Fantasy gamers all around the world. They were initially sceptical, but at the 2008 Jump Festa, Western media got their hands on the game and showered it with glowing praise.

Since then, there have been numerous high profile character announcements, coupled with continued endorsement from the gaming media and this have culminated in one of the most anticipated PSP releases of the year in Japan.

It all comes to an end tomorrow though, as the game will officially be released to the Japanese public and we're eagerly waiting to see what the sales figures are like for the game as the potential is huge!

Although there is rumor that the street date for the release has been broken today, we shouldn't let that marr the occasion that will mark the release of this celebration of 20 years of Final Fantasy tomorrow on the 18th of December, 2008.
