Seven More XBox 360 Secrets Microsoft doesn't Tell You!

50°
324w ago - We whetted your appetite with 10 Xbox 360 tricks Microsoft won't tell you, now here are seven more handy tips to help you get the best out of your console.

1. System updates by disc

Not got your console online yet, or having trouble downloading the latest dashboard update? Try downloading it from a web-connected PC or Mac instead and burning it to a CD. Grab the latest (well, latest-ish - hopefully Microsoft will update the page soon) update from the XBox 360 System Updates page, burn it to disc, then pop that disc into the 360 and turn it on. You'll be prompted automatically as to whether you want to run the update.

2. The towel trick

Bit of a controversial one this, at least as long as you count "possibly burning your house down" as controversial. What it is is a short-term fix for the infamous red rings of death, the mournful LEDs that announce your 360 is deaded. There are various theories about why it works, but the important thing is that, for some people, it does. The way to do it is to wrap the console in a towel or two - ensuring all sides of it are covered - then turn it on and leave it running for 10 minutes or so. Then turn it off, remove the towels, turn it on again and pray. If it's worked, it'll only stay alive for a few hours, but doing this a couple...

More Killzone 2 BETA Invite Confirmations: Check your E-Mails!

50°
324w ago - Recently there were reports of Killzone 2 BETA invites going out to a very limited number of European PlayStation 3 owners, and Play3-Live (among many others) now confirmed they have indeed received their code.

To quote, roughly translated: SCEE started to send a wave of e-mail to several European players. These messages contain codes which make it possible to take part in BETA of Killzone 2!

Do not forget to look at your e-mail box, even in the file "Spam".

Finally, Killzone 2 will leave in February 2009, of exclusiveness on the PlayStation 3.

Monster Hunter 3 - PS3 Transition, Monsters Reworked & More!

50°
325w ago - Monster Hunter 3 is an upcoming title from Capcom that is one of the most anticipated Nintendo Wii titles within Japan.

Although announced for Japan only, with talks of it going elsewhere as well, this title wasn't always set for the Nintendo Wii but rather the Playstation 3. With the change of platforms Capcom had to rethink how it would be developing this title as the PlayStation 3 version was to be originally be built off Monster Hunter 1.

Ryozo Tsujimoto, producer of this title, revealed that with the change to Nintendo Wii they were given the opportunity to build the game from scratch which they knew would be the harder way to go but would pay off the most.

Kaname Fujioka, director of the title, has also made it known that monsters that have originally appeared in previous Monster Hunter titles will feel new and different to fans of this series as all elements of monsters have also been rehashed.

Monsters will also seem more realistic in this title as in previously in the series Monsters acted with no awareness of other monsters surrounding them but this time awareness will be at full advantage and players will be able to use this to their advantage.

Kaname Fujioka gave an example that if a larger monster was in the back and small monsters were...

PS3 Dev Progress Update - Flowcharts and More!

400°
326w ago - This is just a short post to let everyone know we're still alive. Its been a quiet summer, most people were off on vacation (or on holiday, for our friends across the pond), including many of our own PS3 Devs.

However, the summer is over and we all went back to work in full force on the PS3, adding some new and very talented Devs along the way who will be helping out!

For starters, our very own ggparallel spent the past month or so along with NDT testing countless edited PS3 Firmwares on the PS3, and has been able to drastically refine our knowledge of the PS3's bootup procedure.

Below is a clear flowchart of the current theory of operation, the basic procedure is the same as we previously posted, that the system is booted in a "chain" so to speak. LV0 loads lv1ldr, which loads lv1.self (the Hypervisor).

Then depending on the system to be booted, loads the proper Hypervisor policy and then loads the lv2loader for the GameOS. That in turn, loads the LV2 Kernel, which is also hash checked (so we can't change it, forgetting the fact that its encrypted too). From there, the rest of the system is brought up.

Furthermore, we have still been digging through the flash...
