Call of Duty: World at War Interview with Tech Specs and More!

100°
324w ago - PCGH: What will be the base technology of Call of Duty: World at War? Do you as a new developer write a brand new engine from scratch of do you reuse many parts of the technology of Call of Duty 4? Why do you decide program a new engine/modify the existing technology?

Cesar Stastny: Treyarch has worked on various games during the last decade so we had our own engines, including the one on which all the Spiderman games were built. For Call of Duty: World at War, we chose the original Infinity Ward Call of Duty4: Modern Warfare engine as the base technology. Call of Duty 4 is widely considered the best cross platform game to date (Xbox 360/PS3/PC), so it is logical to consider its engine as the best next generation cross platform as well.

We chose it for its excellent lighting and game scripting. We enhanced the existing Call of Duty 4 engine with visual improvements, new effects, cooperative multiplayer, as well as using Activision's proprietary DemonWare technology for online, lobbies, matchmaking on PC and PS3 platforms which do not come with the equivalent of Xbox Live.

PCGH: Call of Duty 4 was developed cross platform and there were no major differences between the console and the PC version as far as visuals and other technical aspects is concerned. Will this be the case for Call of Duty:...

325w ago - Xabora posted up some rumors regarding potential upcoming Xbox stuff at NeoGAF linked above. The Xbox 360 will be slimming down to a Wii-like size, this model should have a GPU and CPU combo dye with E-DRAM off to the side.

Next up is the model after the 360 that is expected to have a Blu-ay drive, quad core CPU, 1TB hard drive and a sepculative release date of 2010.

To quote: Today I ran across some information. However I do live in an area with a good deal of employees/contractors from a rather large corporation and have worked with some of them in my past. So lets start off with some of the info I was given starting with the 360 in general.

From what I was told during a conversation; Microsoft seems to be slimming the system down to a 'Wii-like' size. (A Fat overweight Wii) This model should have the CPU+GPU Combo Dye with the E-DRAM off to the side. Thats all the information I have on that.

Now I'm not 100% sure on this so do not get hyped up, but speculated release is Late Winter 2008ish? Side note, ATI/AMD has been working on a CPU/GPU Combo dye for sometime.

As for the Xbox, The model after the currently existing Xenon/360... that is expected to have a Blu-Ray Drive?, 1TB HDD, and a Quad-Core CPU. Speculative Date is considered 2010~.(Considering its...

Sony Sees More PS3 Integration With PSP

250°
326w ago - PSP hit the scene about three years ago and while it's been evolving into quite a useful handheld, it hasn't quite taken off like Sony would have liked.

But that doesn't mean that it's dying and SCEA Director of Hardware Marketing John Koller insists that sales have been "red hot" in 2008.

PlayStation 3 has also had a healthy rebound this year and Sony plans to integrate the two more as time goes by.

"I think as we go forward, we're going to see a lot more integration with PlayStation 3, particularly as the install base of the PS3 continues to grow stratospherically in many ways, and the integration that is going to occur there is part and parcel of the strategy that the console is the living room hub and really where your entertainment flows," he told IGN.

"Then, your PSP is your digital living room on the go, and being able to access your PS3 in a wide variety of ways is really a key part of our overall branding strategy. That's going to be something that you're going to see expanded on in future firmware updates and other things."
