PSN now down, PS3 Firmware 2.40 rumored for July release

317w ago - To quote Lestrade, Community Team Leader at the European PlayStation Forums:

PLAYSTATION®Network Downtime - Tuesday 24 June, 15:00-20:10 BST

The PLAYSTATION Network will be offline for 5 hours today from 3pm BST (4pm CEST) for maintenance work. It's pretty much all behind-the-scenes work and is, most definitely, not the 2.4 System Software update. Sorry, you need to wait a little longer for that one!

During this maintenance, the following online services may not be available:

- PSN account registration,
- PSN account sign-in,
- PSN account management,
- PlayStation Store purchases,
- online gaming, unless you are already logged in at 3pm
- forum login

In related news, self-proclaimed Sony employee Knight613 from GameFAQs states that PS3 Firmware v2.40 was supposed to come out on June 18th, but a bad error was found and needed fixing. Now the date is very early July (1st to 3rd), and the RC release is already ready... so it's just a matter of time.

To quote: 2.40 was supposed to come out June 18th actually... till they found a pretty bad error with the XMB and had to fix it. New date is supposedly July 2ndish,...

Sony: More MGS4 PS3 bundles coming in early July

100°
317w ago - With the Metal Gear Solid 4 80GB PlayStation 3 bundle in short supply, according to Sony, more shipments will become available to retailers soon.

"Due to overwhelming demand, the product is currently unavailable. The new estimated time of arrival date for when this will be available is the beginning of July," a Sony Style representative said.

Sony has yet to release any information about stock, but promised that it is working for additional shipments.

"While we can't provide specifics on inventory levels, the Metal Gear Solid 4 PlayStation 3 bundle is a limited-edition offering that's experiencing high demand from Metal Gear and PlayStation enthusiasts," the SCEA statement read.

"We're pleased with the strong consumer interest in the bundle and are working to ensure that additional shipments are provided to retailers."

PS3 Dev Update: PS3 Firmware 2.36 Update Plugs Hole & More!

317w ago - A lot has gone on, and nothing has gone on lately. Let's start with the nothing part first since it's shorter... we really have no monumental progress to report at the moment. Why? Simple, everything the resident PS3 Devs are working on is still a work-in-progress... when there is news we will post it.

So what is the "a lot" part that has gone on lately? Mostly stuff that may eventually lead to newsworthy progress. I myself have recently acquired nearly 1GB of new Sony goodies to play with, and I have been spending much of my freetime examining a lot of the included documentation.

One interesting thing we recently found out is that Sony has released a NEW model PS3 TEST. It is the DECHJ00J/DECHJ00A. It is supported in SDK version 2.17 and later, and features a 40GB Hard Disk Drive, and two USB ports. Like its retail counterpart, it also lacks PS2 hardware, so it can not play PS2 games.

I've also been working with another PS3 Dev on getting ProDG running with TargetManager on my Debug PS3. Up until now, we have been stuck with a neutered version and unfortunately the PS3 ProDG is unlike the old PS2 version, where you can just bypass the License Check and Program Terminate, or use the defunct ZENiTH generator.

Instead, ProDG for PS3 is similar to the PSP version utilizing a client...

Ninja Theory responds to Heavenly Sword 2 rumors & more!

318w ago - A quick follow-up on the previous Rumor: Heavenly Sword 2 cancelled for PS3 article, commenting tameem of NeoGAF has stated the following:

"We (Ninja Theory) never started work on HS2 as we wanted to focus on new multiplatform IP. Sony owns the IP for HS and we have never been privy to what they would do with it.

As for moving, we have been planning to move to larger premises for future expansion for the best part of a year. There is nothing bitter about the move.

And the rumor that the team has been disbanded is ridiculous. We have had an unbelievably loyal team especially as we went through some difficult times securing a new publishing deal. We have a new publisher and are busy on our new project which is going very well so far.

HS is far from our thoughts at the moment."

More Screenshots, Gameplay Info for The Conduit

319w ago - The fact developer High Voltage Software has yet to find a publisher for The Conduit, which is the FPS Wii-exclusive title, hasn't stopped it from announcing a first-quarter 2009 release.

The Conduit Information Center site also has a nice little cache of screenshots, and IGN put up four new ones on Friday. Also, a Q&A with High Voltage's software development director gives a few more details on the game itself, including:

• Three modes for online play. Offline play is single-player. LAN multiplayer likely. They're trying to get voice chat online.
• Enemies use portals to bring in reinforcements; destroying them will be a key.
• Set in fictional Earth of the near future, the story takes on a dark conspiracy-theory tone that unravels pretty fast after you get sent to investigate an extra-terrestrial encounter. Think the X-Files with stranger weapons.
• Your adversaries are called The Drudge. I battle drudgery every day, lemme tell ya.

More screenshots can be seen at the link up top!
