Preview: Killzone 2 Hands-On for PS3

100°
336w ago - Do you remember E3 in 2005? No, not the one with giant enemy crabs, massive damage, and "Ridge Racer!" - that was E3 2006. E3 2005 was the event where Sony showed the now infamous Killzone 2 trailer.

Much debate raged at the time as to whether it was pre-rendered footage or rendered in real time (it was pre-rendered, for the record) and much debate also raged as to whether or not the PS3 would actually be capable of displaying such visual beauty. Because, let's face it, in a pre-Gears of War world, the Xbox 360 wasn't exactly setting the world alight graphically.

Afterwards, Killzone 2 seemed to drop off the radar completely. Trade show after trade show it was conspicuously absent and people started to talk. Would Killzone 2 look like ass? Would it be another Duke Nukem Forever? Never mind the gameplay; all people wanted to know about was whether it was coming and whether it would live up to the pre-rendered footage.

Finally, some footage and screenshots emerged, and it seemed like while Killzone 2 wouldn't match the pre-rendered footage, it would at least come damn close. And, having now played the game myself, I can assure you that Killzone 2 looks amazing.

Although I was only playing a pre-alpha build (read: early days yet), I was still blown away by what I saw. Sure,...

The story of Killzone 2, straight from Sony

50°
340w ago - We're going to have to wait until next year to experience the hotly anticipated Killzone 2. Right now, Joystiq's Chris Grant is getting some time with the title (we're insanely jealous!). While we wait to hear back, we'd like to present you the story, straight from the fine folks at Sony.

"Two years after the Helghast assault on Vekta, the ISA is taking the fight to the enemy's home world of Helghan. The ISA goal is direct: capture the Helghast leader, Emperor Visari, and bring the Helghast war machine to a halt. Assuming the role of Sev, a battle-hardened veteran and a member of the special forces unit known as the Legion, players will lead a group of highly trained soldiers on a mission to take out the Helghast threat. For Sev and his squad, the invasion of Helghan is just the beginning.

Tasked with securing Pyrrhus, the Capital City, the team quickly discovers that the Helghast are a formidable enemy on their home planet. Not only have they adjusted to the planet's hostile conditions, they have also harnessed a source of power they can now use against the ISA. Sev discovers his squad isn't just fighting enemy forces - their fiercest opponent may be the planet itself."

From what we saw at our E3 preview, we know exactly how terrifying the...

Rumor: Killzone 2 Levels are to Take 50 Minutes

250°
341w ago - According to a member of the GameTrailers Forum, someone over at NEOGAF learned that Killzone 2 will take about 45/50 minutes to complete each level. To quote:

"I saw Playr this morning too. It's basically the new version of Gamer TV. Made by the same people with the same format but with a different, less nasally, presenter. Airs in the UK on Bravo at the weekend (a satellite/cable channel).

They had a Sony rep demoing KZ2. He spoke about AI advancements although it wasn't abundantly clear that the clips tallied with what he was saying.

Couple of other things though. The dude said there were some new weapons that people would be impressed with. He then cryptically added that we'd see them in the next couple of months. Magazine exclusive reveal or more likely E3?

He also said every level would take about 45/50 minutes to complete"
