Sony: MAG is Only Possible on PS3, an Iteration of SOCOM

300°
285w ago - SCEA hardware marketing boss John Koller has claimed that upcoming multiplayer shooter MAG can only be built on PS3.

"MAG is a 256 online-player game which is spectacular," he said, talking to VG247 at GDC last week.

"If you look at that competitively, it's something that's only possible on PS3. The processor speed, the ability of PS3 to showcase 256 players at any given time, and their actions."

Koller went on to detail the Zipper Interactive game's concept.

"It's basically like an iteration of SOCOM, where you're maybe commanding the SEALs, and someone else has the Rangers, and the Green Berets, and so on," he said.

MAG was Sony's "big" announcement at the end of its 2008 E3 press conference. A movie was shown of the title, featuring soldiers, vehicles and lots and lots of guns.

It's planned for release late this year.

Sony: Support the PlayStation Portable Better in the Rest of 2009

285w ago - According to reports, the PSP is showing [Register or Login to view links] for Sony over previous years.

In Q1 of 2009, PSP hardware sales are up 75% from last year and software sales are up over 20%. Despite this growth, many are worried as it's yet to catch up to PS3 or even PS2's formidable numbers.

Huh... That's kinda weird. Like myself, you've probably noticed that when you visit your favorite retailer, the PSP section has been getting smaller and smaller.

This appears to be the result of the PSP's candle burning at both ends. On the one hand, retailers are devoting less space to the PSP in favor of more popular products. On the other hand, developers are complaining about the level of difficulty in programming games for the device, especially when dealing with the UMD format. For most, it's just not worth the hassle.

However, 2008 showed a spectacular increase in business through digital distribution. Seeing this, Sony's announced great plans for expanding their PlayStation Store. Many developers, such as Capcom, have also [Register or Login to view links] in taking advantage of this...

Opinion: Sony Didn't Shaft Anyone with PS3 Firmware 2.70

500°
285w ago - I can't count how many times I and many others have told people to not get their hopes up with PS3 firmware updates. Sony didn't 'shaft' anyone.

They haven't even hinted there was a firmware update coming out for the PlayStation 3. Loads of blogs/Web sites have reported what could come in the next firmware update - but why all the hype? Sony hasn't said if the rumored features were true or not. Why are you pissed at Sony?

They're called rumors for a reason. Sure, some of them end up being true, but chances are it's nothing more than an eager fanboy begging for features the competition already has to offer.

Others who want to believe these rumors will probably end up being disappointed, maybe even angry if they're ultra-fanboys. It's like they're fighting with themselves (which is actually pretty funny).

On that note, I just want to say - keep the excitement meter to a maximum-minimum (add that to your vocabulary). If you find clues to what could possibly point to anything, tell people about it. And maybe, just maybe - it could end up being true.
