Electronic Arts Developer Diary: The Saboteur for PS3

100°
278w ago - Today EA's Lead Designer Tom French has shared a sneak peek along with some insight into their upcoming PS3 title The Saboteur.

According to their developer diary, the game is a big story-driven open-world action-sandbox game that pits a daredevil race-car-driver-turned-saboteur vs. Nazi occupied France.

To quote: "WWII, really, do I need another WWII game?" We said the same thing to ourselves when the idea was first pitched to the team.

Let me tell you now, straight up, The Saboteur is not your typical WWII game.

In The Saboteur rather than playing what might as well be a nameless-faceless soldier in the war you play as Sean Devlin; a rough around the edges Irish race-car-driver who becomes a saboteur. While I know this idea might sound a bit unbelievable at first; let me tell you now that Sean is actually inspired by a real life person - William Grover-Williams.

He was British/French grand prix champion who drove for the legendary Bugatti racing team back in the 30's. Because of his daredevil nature and his ability to blend into the French culture he made prime candidate to be recruited by the Special Operations Executive (SOE).

He then became a saboteur working with the Resistance there. This idea of a larger-than-life hero that wasn't...

Capcom Dev: Sony Motion Controller Means Wii-to-PS3 Ports

550°
280w ago - During a recent interview with Capcom's Jun Takeuchi, 1UP (linked above) was told that several Japanese developers welcome Sony's upcoming PS3 Motion Controller as it opens the door for Wii-to-PS3 ports.

To quote from the interview: "1UP: What about Sony's motion control device?

JT: Well just being from Capcom, I can tell you that we have a lot of good ideas on how to make use of that technology and we're looking forward to putting them into practice.

However, speaking to other developers in Japan, I've heard a few of them say they were delighted by the Sony motion controller because they can just port over their Wii titles to the PS3."

Reports of PS3 Firmware 3.0 Locking Out Knock-off Controllers

700°
282w ago - Well, here's a bit of a curious situation... as [Register or Login to view links] reports, it wasn't long after the PS3 Firmware 3.0 went live that the first reports of problems started cropping up.

One particularly nagging issue being that some controllers (specifically the CECHZC2H Ceramic White DualShock3) seemed to be locked out of the console once the update was installed.

To quote: After hashing it out a bit on the official PlayStation 3 forum, however, users apparently determined that the controllers in question were in fact knock-offs and not official Sony product, which raises some different but just as interesting questions.

Namely, is Sony locking the knock-offs out on purpose, or is firmware 3.0 just too much for them to handle? For its part, Sony doesn't seem to be saying anything on the matter just yet.

Reports of PS3 Firmware Update 3.0 Freezing Games Surface

1000°
282w ago - Well, it's less than a day after Sony's PS3 Firmware 3.0 update has been released and already there appears to be numerous reports of some PS3 games freezing post-update.

According to Examiner.com (linked above), at least three PS3 titles thus far seem to be adversely affected.

To quote: "One of the biggest games being inflicted by this freezing bug is Uncharted. Numerous forum goers on [Register or Login to view links] are complaining about the freezing issue. There have also been a few reports of the UFC and Bioshock getting similar symptoms.

Whether this is just limited to Uncharted isn't known, but it could very well cause some minor problems to other titles, too. Let's hope Sony finds a cure for this minor inconvenience soon."

A few others are reporting that NFS: Undercover now freezes when playing online and COD4 froze when in a lobby.

That being said, if anyone here has experienced any PS3 game freezing issues since updating to PS3 Firmware 3.0 feel free to reply in the comments below!
