Capcom Dev: Sony Motion Controller Means Wii-to-PS3 Ports

550°
275w ago - During a recent interview with Capcom's Jun Takeuchi, 1UP (linked above) was told that several Japanese developers welcome Sony's upcoming PS3 Motion Controller as it opens the door for Wii-to-PS3 ports.

To quote from the interview: "1UP: What about Sony's motion control device?

JT: Well just being from Capcom, I can tell you that we have a lot of good ideas on how to make use of that technology and we're looking forward to putting them into practice.

However, speaking to other developers in Japan, I've heard a few of them say they were delighted by the Sony motion controller because they can just port over their Wii titles to the PS3."

Reports of PS3 Firmware 3.0 Locking Out Knock-off Controllers

700°
277w ago - Well, here's a bit of a curious situation... as [Register or Login to view links] reports, it wasn't long after the PS3 Firmware 3.0 went live that the first reports of problems started cropping up.

One particularly nagging issue being that some controllers (specifically the CECHZC2H Ceramic White DualShock3) seemed to be locked out of the console once the update was installed.

To quote: After hashing it out a bit on the official PlayStation 3 forum, however, users apparently determined that the controllers in question were in fact knock-offs and not official Sony product, which raises some different but just as interesting questions.

Namely, is Sony locking the knock-offs out on purpose, or is firmware 3.0 just too much for them to handle? For its part, Sony doesn't seem to be saying anything on the matter just yet.

Reports of PS3 Firmware Update 3.0 Freezing Games Surface

1000°
277w ago - Well, it's less than a day after Sony's PS3 Firmware 3.0 update has been released and already there appears to be numerous reports of some PS3 games freezing post-update.

According to Examiner.com (linked above), at least three PS3 titles thus far seem to be adversely affected.

To quote: "One of the biggest games being inflicted by this freezing bug is Uncharted. Numerous forum goers on [Register or Login to view links] are complaining about the freezing issue. There have also been a few reports of the UFC and Bioshock getting similar symptoms.

Whether this is just limited to Uncharted isn't known, but it could very well cause some minor problems to other titles, too. Let's hope Sony finds a cure for this minor inconvenience soon."

A few others are reporting that NFS: Undercover now freezes when playing online and COD4 froze when in a lobby.

That being said, if anyone here has experienced any PS3 game freezing issues since updating to PS3 Firmware 3.0 feel free to reply in the comments below!

Gamers Turn to Piracy and Boycotting Efforts Against Activision

650°
280w ago - With the recent (very understandable) anger with Activision and their CEO Bobby Kotick over the company's seemingly callous and arrogant stance lately toward gamers, and even other companies, gamers are in the process of figuring out how to make their statement.

The obvious choice would be the [Register or Login to view links] that is beginning to make headway. But such things are only as reliable as the honor of the person who agrees. Someone who is angry now, might not be as angry a few months from now when his buddies are playing Modern Warfare 2 or Guitar Hero 5 and he isn't.

For those who are angry but plan to play Activision's games anyway, it seems that their plan of attack is piracy. Below are some things to keep in mind if your plans include going this route, to quote:

All over the message boards of the gaming community, in private conversations, and the like, apparently this is the intent of many.

Activision is a business, and a business as its bottom line is to make as much profit as possible.

Part of making as much profit as possible obviously includes not enraging your customers to stand against you. And obviously...
