Sony Sees More PS3 Integration With PSP

250°
316w ago - PSP hit the scene about three years ago and while it's been evolving into quite a useful handheld, it hasn't quite taken off like Sony would have liked.

But that doesn't mean that it's dying and SCEA Director of Hardware Marketing John Koller insists that sales have been "red hot" in 2008.

PlayStation 3 has also had a healthy rebound this year and Sony plans to integrate the two more as time goes by.

"I think as we go forward, we're going to see a lot more integration with PlayStation 3, particularly as the install base of the PS3 continues to grow stratospherically in many ways, and the integration that is going to occur there is part and parcel of the strategy that the console is the living room hub and really where your entertainment flows," he told IGN.

"Then, your PSP is your digital living room on the go, and being able to access your PS3 in a wide variety of ways is really a key part of our overall branding strategy. That's going to be something that you're going to see expanded on in future firmware updates and other things."

317w ago - Although it was first mentioned HERE, the above translated page from watch.impress.co.jp shows some additional very cool pictures of the new Life with PlayStation features.

To me, it looks like Wii channels in Hi-Def are coming soon. Interestingly it doesn't say PS3 so I'm wondering if they are going to release this for the PSP too?

Hirai: MGS4 Moved Eight Times More PS3s in Release Week

50°
317w ago - During Sony's mid-term strategy meeting, PlayStation president Kaz Hirai pointed to Metal Gear Solid 4 as an example of the PlayStation 3's full abilities - noting that it shipped 3 million units worldwide within two weeks of launch, as Famitsu reported yesterday.

Hirai said MGS 4 is "the first title to fully utilize the capacity of dual layer Blu-ray disc.... Metal Gear Solid 4has created a world of gaming entertainment that can only be realized by PS3."

He also said MGS 4 drove console sales. "In the first week of the release of Metal Gear Solid 4, sales of PS3 in the Japanese market grew significantly, [an] eight times increase as compared to the week before, proving that Metal Gear Solid 4is a platform driver for PS3."

More free PS3 Consoles for Bravia buyers in Australia

317w ago - Update: According to [Register or Login to view links], Sony is giving away another 10,000 free PS3's to those in Australia. All you have to do to get a free PS3 system is purchase a Bravia LCD TV.

Adam over at Gizmodo Aus (linked above) reports that Sony is giving away 35,000 PS3's to Bravia TV purchasers for the month of July.

In a promotion to get Olympic viewers to buy before the games start Sony are giving away just 35,000 PS3 consoles, with a Web site for checking how many are left or the ability to find out via SMS or toll-free number.

The special offer will run between July 1 and 31, and applies to any purchase of a Sony Bravia XBR, X3100, W3100, V4000 and W4000 models.

Sounds like they have learnt their lesson from some of the bad press generated by the previous offer (Although I have to say my one and other folks I know who got them, came pretty quickly).
