PS3 Trumps XBox 360 in the Movie Stakes, Deal Puts Sony Ahead

50°
281w ago - Microsoft's Xbox 360 may have the movie monopoly in the UK, with downloadable content available from Paramount, Universal and Warner, but Sony is inching ahead in the US.

Sony has recently signed a deal with NBC Universal which was the last major studio to allow downloadable content on the PS3.

This is a feat that Microsoft will possibly never achieve as the one major studio whose content is missing from Xbox Live is, you've guessed it, Sony Pictures.

Unless, of course, they access Sony films through the console's Netflix service.

PSP compatible

Adding Universal's content to the PS3 - which includes the movies Milk and Role Models, and TV shows The Office and Battlestar Galactica - means that the PS3 now boasts around 1,300 movies and 4,500 TV episodes. The movies and shows will also be available to download on the PSP.

Recently, Microsoft bolstered its UK movie download service with the addition of Universal. Let's hope that the content deals Sony has inked will come across the water soon, as the company has still yet to announce a UK movie download service.

Sony Admits it Under-Supported the PSP in Favor of the PS3

250°
281w ago - Sony's senior VP and MD for UK, Ireland and the Nordic region Ray Maguire admitted that the PSP has been 'slightly under supported' because a lot of the energy was going into projects they were doing for the PS3.

He also revealed that there was an additional complication as the UMD model wasn't suited for third parties.

To quote: "It was slightly under-supported, mainly because a lot of the energy was going into stuff we're doing for PlayStation 3," he explained to GamesIndustry.biz. "There was an added complication in that the UMD model wasn't brilliant for third parties, either.

"But I think as the installed base has grown - we're now at 50 million globally - the PSP has become one of the best-selling formats ever, and I think people are seeing that they need to get back into it. I think we had a bit of a barren year last year, and this year we seem to have a bumper crop.

"I think it's one of those formats which has just, almost silently, grown and grown and grown. Now people are looking at 3 million installed base in the UK, and seeing it's a healthy number - that they can sell product against that.

Sony PlayTV (Win64) Driver Now Available!

550°
281w ago - Just under 2 weeks ago Gringo shared with us a Sony PlayTV (Win32) Driver. Today, roberthunt87 stepped up to the plate and updated it to Win64!

Download: Sony PlayTV (Win64) Driver

The best is to use the driver linked [Register or Login to view links] (Pinnacle 64bit).

To quote: I've modded the Beta 64-bit drivers to work with the PlayTV too. I've only tested it on Windows 7 x64 but it should work fine under Vista x64 too.

Windows Media Center detects both tuners and works perfectly under Windows 7 x64 build 7000. Same procedure as Gringo.

- Overwrite the original PCTVDIB64.INF inside the Archive.
- Plug the PlayTV and load the Driver.
