Video: Swarm Hits PlayStation Network, PSN Launch Trailer

161w ago - Hothead Games Director of Game Technology Joel DeYoung has made available a PSN launch trailer video today on Swarm which is hitting PlayStation Network soon.

To quote: We're super excited that Swarm is finally about to be released on PlayStation Network. The genesis of the original idea for the game stretches all the way back to 2006, shortly after we started Hothead.

There was an indie video game developer contest we wanted to enter, so we brainstormed a ton of ideas on what to submit. Dr. Mike Hayward, Hothead's resident Ph.D., brought forward a concept based on his doctoral research in artificial life.

He called it Swarm and it had plenty of science cred. We thought this was our contest winner, so we came up with a cute adorable character to go with his tech, the swarmite, and got to work on a prototype.

In the end we did very well in that contest, placing in the final four, winning the people's choice vote, and garnering $300,000 in winnings. Every time we wore a Swarm t-shirt in public, invariably someone would ask us about the character. People really seemed to like it. So we knew we were onto something. We just had one problem: what we created wasn't really a game.

Video: Chime Super Deluxe Hits PSN on March 29 with Multiplayer

161w ago - Today Producer Brynley Gibson at Zoe Mode has shared a video announcing that Chime Super Deluxe hits PSN on March 29, 2011 and includes four-player multiplayer.

To quote: We're excited to announce that Chime Super Deluxe will be released and available to download from the PlayStation Store on 29th of March in the US. We can't wait!

In the meantime, I would like to tell you a little more about what Super Chime Deluxe has in store for you.

To play the game, you have to place down irregular-shaped blocks one at a time on the grid, fit them together 3 X 3 or more and you will build a quad. The quads score you points and this creates coverage, which fills the grid.

The challenge is to fill the grid before the time runs out. This core rule set alongside multipliers, time bonuses, block fragment crashes and more create an addictive and mesmerising strategic experience.

But where does the music come in? Each block you place plays a note, and a different note depending on where it is placed. Every quad you create plays a longer musical phrase depending on the size and shape of it. The backing track is driven forward depending on how much coverage you have. The composition of the music is therefore remixed by you as you play.

Outland Hits PSN This Spring, Includes Two Co-Op Modes & More

161w ago - Sony's Senior Social Media Specialist Sid Shuman has revealed today that Outland is hitting PSN this Spring with two Co-Op Modes and more, as follows:

Last fall, I got a first look at Outland, a side-scrolling action game that casts you as an urban sophisticate-turned-spiritual warrior.

The dreamlike visuals, fluid platform mechanics, and sharp sword-based combat pointed to a fascinating PSN game.

Since then, developer Housemarque (creators of PSN classics Dead Nation and Super Stardust HD has been busy fleshing out the game with details that will make fans of the classic 2D side-scroller Castlevania: Symphony of the Night beam with delight.

A gorgeously illustrated introductory cinematic introduces you to the protagonist, a nameless, faceless modern-day urban dweller haunted by visions of a vast wheel, endlessly turning.

Maddened by the visions and unable to find relief, the protagonist seeks out a mystic shaman who guides him on a path of spiritual awakening and alerts him to a timeless, cyclical battle with a pair of god-like Sisters who created the world and now seek to destroy it. Guess what? The fate of the world is now in your hands. Lucky you!

"The Sisters are the final bosses in the game," explained Producer Adam Sarasohn....

161w ago - Today XSEED Localization Specialist Jessica Chavez has announced that The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky hits PSP on March 29, 2011.

To quote: If an all-consuming desire for a meaty RPG replete with a shiny metal Bracer badge, soundtrack and poster* should sacrifice your wallet to the gaming gods, your PSP is ours for the next 50+ hours of your life. You will be held hostage to its crushing narrative, and YOU WILL LIKE IT.

Salutations, readers. My name is Jessica Chavez, and I have worked on such delights as Half-Minute Hero and Rune Factory: Frontier, and inserted something salacious about Pikkards into Ys I&II. I also toiled for months on the enormity that is The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, which hits the PSP on March 29, and I shall tell you about it today.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky (also known affectionately as "TitS" thanks to the tender caress of the internet) is an RPG that was first released in 2004 for the PC. It gained fame and notoriety on the computer circuit by virtue of being both massive and the first 3D iteration of its kind within the Legend of Heroes series.

Fast-forward to 2011 and you now have a PSP version crammed with all the original goodness, polished to a blinding sheen...
