211w ago - PlayStation Home Online Community Specialist Locust_Star has shared news today of a special Thanksgiving Event in PlayStation Home and an Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Fortune Hunter Edition contest.
To quote: This Thanksgiving, you'll want to spend every spare moment in the ever-evolving world of PlayStation Home.
Starting this week, a new mini-game will appear in Central Plaza, occupying the space generally reserved for Saucer Pop. This Thanksgiving-themed game will only be live for a limited time and will prove to be one of the most addictive, action-packed, and ridiculously fun activities going on in PlayStation Home.
The premise is simple: in celebration of the impending Turkey Day, users will approach the giant stone turkey in Central Plaza and, of course, pledge their allegiance to the almighty Meleagris Gallopavo by stating "Gobble gobble" and/or other assorted turkey-isms.
If your homage pleases your turkey overlord, you will be given a chance to chase a bunch of wily turkeys around Central Plaza (word to the wise: these turkeys are quite cunning and as such get progressively more difficult to catch as the game goes on, so you'd better bring appropriate footwear).
If you can manage to catch them all, you will unlock some truly hilarious rewards...
222w ago - Today a PlayStation Network promotion wrapped in a 'Thank You' note was sent from Sony to sent to select PSN customers.
While some appear to welcome it for being a loyal customer over the last three years (and spending hundreds of dollars on PSN), others share the "Sony, you should've have. No, really. You shouldn't have." attitude.
To quote: "Are you a regular user of the PSN? Chances are you probably are. Well then, you might want to check your emails.
We just got a message from Sony saying "Hey, thanks for being a loyal customer". We say, that's absolutely not a problem Sony. Don't worry if you didn't get one of these. They're more an advert then anything else."
Did anyone get one here? If so, feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below!
226w ago - Update: PSU has now received a response from Sony as follows, to quote: "We have a long history of creating unique loyalty programs such as PlayStation Underground, which started with the original PlayStation and has evolved into the Gamer Advisory Panel.
We continue to look for ways to expand this program and we are evaluating new naming conventions for this evolution, which is why we filed a trademark for PlayStation Thanks."
A trademark filed by Sony Computer Entertainment America on July 31, 2009 has revealed what is likely to be an upcoming Sony rewards program.
The wordmark "P.S. THANKS" (PlayStation Thanks) shows the following description:
ENTERTAINMENT SERVICES, NAMELY, INCENTIVE REWARDS PROGRAM GEARED TOWARD QUANTIFYING, IDENTIFYING AND MOTIVATING TOP CONSUMER BASE WITH THE GOAL OF PROMOTION AND SALE OF VIDEO GAME HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE
To quote: "There are a number of ways Sony could incentivize their customer base. They could hand out points for each item purchased and reward frequent buyers with PlayStation products sort of like Club Nintendo.
232w ago - As part of an absolutely massive 210-page report from Wedbush Morgan Securities on the future of the video game industry, analyst Michael Pachter has predicted that Japan will be the Achilles heel for Microsoft, enabling Sony's PS3 to overtake Xbox 360 on the global market.
Wii, however, will maintain its leadership role until the end (with a little help from a new "Wii HD").
To quote: "We expect the dominant console at the end of the this cycle to be the Wii, as we think that the console's low price point, innovative control mechanism, and compatibility with standard definition televisions will provide it with a competitive advantage over the next two years.
We expect Nintendo to sustain this competitive advantage by introducing a high definition version of the Wii, perhaps as early as the end of 2010, in order to convert its large installed base into true 'next generation' households," Pachter said.
"We think that the PS3 will capture significant market share, primarily due to Sony's victory in the high definition DVD format war, and will end up in second place by 2015.
Although Microsoft's Xbox 360 enjoyed a first mover advantage, we think that its market position will fade to third place due to lack of penetration in Japan."
233w ago - Sony's Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein is back with another video, this time in an interview with Nathan Drake: Uncharted 2's Nolan North as follows:
It's very unusual to meet someone you feel like you already know. I got that chance a couple of weeks ago, when I ran into Nolan North at the PlayStation Booth during the final hours of E3.
If the name's not familiar (or his face), perhaps his voice will - North is the talent behind the witty remarks of Uncharted's Nathan Drake.
Now North is a bit of a talker, but if you've got a few minutes, he's got some interesting insights on the role of actual acting in video games, and how Naughty Dog gets such great results out of their voiceover stars for the Uncharted series.
