EVO 2K: Tekken Hybrid, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Prologue Details

50°
173w ago - Sony Senior Social Media Specialist Sid Shuman has shared an EVO 2K update today, with details on both Tekken Hybrid and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Prologue as follows:

I spent the weekend at the [Register or Login to view links], a mecca for fighting-game competitors and home to the biggest Street Fighter IV, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Tekken 6, Mortal Kombat tournaments in the world.

This year, I'm told, EVO attendance spiked sharply to nearly 8,000 attendees – enough to strain the confines of the biggest ballroom in one of Las Vegas's larger resort hotels.

With EVO's popularity soaring in recent years, it's become common to see legendary figures in fighting game design prowling the demo stations, studying player reactions and answering questions.

At EVO I caught up with Katsuhiro Harada, the outgoing game director for Tekken since its inception on the PSone. I particularly wanted to discuss this November's PS3-exclusive Tekken Hybrid, the upcoming Blu-ray compilation that will include CG film [Register or Login to view links], an enhanced version of the seminal PS2 fighter Tekken Tag Tournament, and an appetizer in the form of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Prologue.

189w ago - Today SCEE's James Gallagher has shared a new Street Fighter x Tekken gameplay trailer and details.

To quote: At Captivate last week, Capcom unveiled the first batch of playable characters in [Register or Login to view links]: Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Guile and Abel from Street Fighter and Kazuya, Nina Williams, King, Marduk and Bob from Tekken.

Afterwords, Producer Yoshinori Ono spoke how Street Fighter X Tekken came to be.

In his words... When we [Capcom] took that 10 year break between releasing [Register or Login to view links] games, I feel that Tekken diligently stoked the fighting game campfire and kept people interested. With Street Fighter IV we tossed kerosene on that fire and got fans really excited about fighting games again.

I was having dinner with the [Register or Login to view links] director [Katsuhiro] Harada-san shortly after Street Fighter IV came out and we got talking about how we could keep that campfire burning. We were half-joking when we first conceived this collaboration, but it did seem like a great idea to both of us and pretty soon we were both saying, 'you go back to your office and I'll go back to mine... let's synchronise watches and convince everyone that we...

Whether or not the transition is a smooth one remains to be seen, but some of the gameplay videos that are leaking onto the net look pretty good so far."
