PS3 Slim Models Wireless Driver Added to Red Ribbon / Linux RC5

700°
152w ago - Following up on their Red Ribbon GNU / Linux Release Candidate 5 for PS3 update, today PlayStation 3 developer r04drunner has incorporated the wireless driver for PS3 Slim models from Gitbrew into Red Ribbon GNU / Linux RC5 for PS3.

To quote from their page: This update integrates the wireless driver for the slims models developed by gitbrew. You need to connect the PS3 to the Internet, open a lxterminal and download the file:

Then, you can execute it:

And wait until finished.

If while executing it asks: You are running a kernel (version 2.6.38-powerpc64) and attempting to remove the same version. This is a potentially disastrous action. Not only will /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38-powerpc64 be removed, making it impossible to boot it, (you will have to take action to change your boot loader to boot a new kernel), it will also remove all modules under the directory /lib/modules/2.6.38-powerpc64. Just having a copy of the kernel image is not enough, you will have to replace the modules too.

I repeat, this is very dangerous. If at all in doubt,...

E3 Flasher for NOR Fat PlayStation 3 Console is Reviewed

1400°
155w ago - I received my E3 Flasher a couple of hours ago from [Register or Login to view links] and here is my review.

Packaging:

The E3 flasher comes in a nice big box, it's actually bigger than I expected it to be and it contains 3 inner boxes.

The first box contains all the important stuff like the Nor flasher, main board and the cover board which connects to the pins on the main board.

The second box contains all the accessories and cables like the Esata USB cable which is not used with the E3 flasher at all and is probably for use with the PC or something like that it also contains the Esata cable which is used with the E3 flasher and the power adapter which didn't fit in my power socket because it wasn't the right shape (different region), so I had to go of and buy a power adapter converter thing so the Esata station will work.

For the accessories they included a power switch for PS3 slim users and a metal case for the main board to sit in where the HDD usually sits but a screw driver wasn't included like they mentioned.

The third box contains the Esata station and it is the biggest and heaviest box out of the three.

Installation:

164w ago - Following up on the initial news, today the E3 Team have made available a video of their E3 Flasher downgrading a PS3 Slim 3.70 Firmware console to version 3.55 without any soldering required.

To quote: E3DIY team announces a successful Slim Downgrade v3.70 to v3.55 with our new E3 FLASHER!

In only FIVE minutes, the whole downgrade progress was completed!

Time is short and operation is very easy, this is because of our exclusive special E3 FLASHER design:

  • ONE-Button Operation and NOR Flash onboard!
  • E3 FLASHER compatible all NAND FLASH and NOR FLASH consoles
  • With SLIM Consoles, no need for any soldering!
  • But with PHAT Consoles, some soldering will be needed!

In this video there no images of the E3 FLASHER as we need to keep our design under wraps until it is ready for release, I hope everyone understands.

The official version should be released next week, at that time there will be more videos and pictures and everything will be available to the public.

1250°
166w ago - Following up on the initial PS3 Slim 3.70 Downgrade and PS3 3.7x Downgrade for Slims and Fats with NOR Flash news, this weekend Italian PlayStation 3 hackers DiGiTaLAnGeL (linked above) have made available a guide to fast swap PS3 Slim CFW 3.55 to OFW 3.70 with 2 HDDs and ProgSkeet followed by a New Method - PS3 Downgrade v2 Supports all NOR Flash from TwoStone.

To quote, roughly translated: Today I'll write a tutorial to "fast-swap" between CFW 3.55 and OFW 3.70, using 2 HDDs... at the end of the tutorial, you'll be able to swap between the firmware just flashing a dump on your PS3 using Progskeet. (instead of downgrading and losing all data).

The first steps are not so easy, so take your time and go on, by the way, you must have some skill with Progskeet, and it must be 100% working...
