268w ago - President of Take-Two Interactive (Rockstar's parent company) Ben Feder has explained why Agent (announced at Sony's E3 2009 press conference) is a PlayStation 3 exclusive title.

According to RockStar, at this phase when you are trying to launch a new franchise, exclusivity can help you launch it. Through going exclusive, you also get more first party support.

To quote: "At this phase in the cycle, when you're trying to launch a new franchise, exclusivity can really help you launch the franchise.

It can give you the kind of platform that you need to start exclusive, start in the right kind of way with the right kind of partner. Exclusivity does work", Feder went on.

Agent is being overseen by the Housers, founding fathers of Rockstar. Development is being handled by Rockstar North, the studio behind GTA IV.

Going on to big up the PS3 Feder, apparently unphased by the console's lagging sales, said, "I have a lot of confidence in Sony. I have a lot of confidence in their ability to lead the market, as they always have.

Their console is a terrific platform to be developing for, and Agent is a great testament as to our belief in what that platform...

Rumor: Rockstar North is Gearing Up for a New Game

350°
270w ago - Rockstar North, the UK-based development studio behind the critically acclaimed Grand Theft Auto franchise, are gearing up for a new game, if recent [Register or Login to view links] are any indication.

As pointed out by Ether_Snake of [Register or Login to view links], the developer is looking to fill positions in 8 different development areas, from character animators to Web site designers and everything in between.

To quote: While the postings are pretty cut and dry, they do mention that they're looking for programmers with PS360 experience, indicating a game for those platforms.

The obvious guess would be a new Grand Theft Auto game, but I'll go out on a limb to be different and say it's a new Manhunt game.

Rockstar North's most recent project was the 360 exclusive GTAIV DLC that came out earlier this year, The Lost and Damned.

Rockstar's Response to GTA IV: Lost and Damned DLC

272w ago - Today JokerElite sent an e-mail to Rockstar Games regarding the rumors surrounding Grand Theft Auto IV and if they were true. You would be suprised.

Rockstar's reply: "Unfortunately, we are only able to provide support and infomation on our current releases and are unable to comment on any possible future releases.

We are also unable to comment on future patches or upgrades for games that are currently released." - Kind regards, Jamie.

Strange... I believe Rockstar Games is leading us on to something. If they were unable to comment on a future patch; then it was true after all? If it isn't Lost & Damned then it must be some sort of a downloadable content coming to the PlayStation 3.

Speculation: Is Rockstar Still Working on the PS3 Exclusive?

273w ago - In June 2007, director of third party relations at Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) Michael Shorrock revealed on the Official PlayStation Blog that Sony and Rockstar had come to an agreement on developing a new PS3 exclusive.

To quote: "As part of our long standing relationship with Rockstar, and the incredible success for both companies with the cultural icon that is Grand Theft Auto, we've agreed to the PlayStation exclusive rights of the next great franchise from the Rockstar studios," Shorrock wrote.

"Rockstar really wanted to make a game that you can truly only do on PS3, harnessing the power of CELL and Blu-ray disc and this deal lets them do just that...This is really a win-win situation for both companies."

President and CEO of SCEA Jack Tretton further discussed the new agreement with Rockstar on Spike TV's Game Head show with Geoff Keighley, confirming that the unnamed project was not L.A. Noire and that Sony was able to release Take-Two from GTA IV exclusivity in exchange for acquiring the rights to the publisher's next franchise.

"What we're really excited about is the next great franchise from Take-Two and in exchange for letting them out of that exclusive (Grand Theft Auto IV), we've got the rights to the next great franchise from Take-Two."
