Rain: The Story Behind 2013's Most Intriguing PSN Release

100°
72w ago - Sony Blog Manager Fred Dutton shared details today on the Rain: the story behind 2013's most intriguing PSN release below.

To quote: Hopefully you found the time last week to take a look at the haunting new trailer for Rain - the new adventure game from Japan Studio heading to PlayStation 3 later this year.

It's shaping up to be one of the most intriguing PSN titles of the year, channeling the same sense of freewheeling creativity that made Journey, The Unfinished Swan and Tokyo Jungle such stand-out experiences.

The setup is simple - you play as a lone boy who finds himself alone in a mysterious rain-soaked city. The twist? He's completely invisible, except for the outline of the precipitation running off his body.

You'll guide him through this strange world as he goes in pursuit of a girl who's seemingly suffering the exact same predicament, while also trying to evade malevolent hostile forces.

I sat down with the game's producer Noriko Umemura when she was in London last week and dug a little deeper into this fascinating title.

PlayStation.Blog: Rain has one of the more unusual set-ups in recent memory. Where did the idea come from?

Noriko Umemura: When we gathered together, we had one thing in common - we wanted...

Tiny Brains on PlayStation 4: An Experiment in PS4 Teamwork

72w ago - Spearhead Games Co-founder Simon Darveau shared details on Tiny Brains for PlayStation 4 today, dubbed an experiment in PS4 teamwork!

Below are the details, to quote: After my Spearhead Games co-founders and I wrapped up Assassin's Creed III and Dead Space 3, respectively, we wanted to get out of the AAA world and back to the basics of why we love video games: playing together with friends, finding new ways to interact and challenging your brain.

With these ideas in mind, we founded [Register or Login to view links], and started making Tiny Brains, a co-op puzzle game - which we can now reveal will be headed to PS4!

Tiny Brains is set in a lab where four super-powered animals have to work together to solve puzzles and escape from a mad scientist's experiment. We chose this theme because now that we are indie devs and have more flexibility, experimentation is what we're all about in our creative process.

We have a "no design doc" policy at Spearhead. Being able to do this has been one of the best things about going indie, and the philosophy helps us make significant creative developments in a short amount of time.

With no design docs, we can think about how to make the best experience at all times. When a designer has a...

73w ago - Sony Associate Producer Dais Kawaguchi is here with a new Rain video trailer today dubbed Two Silhouettes for PlayStation 3 below.

To quote: In our previous blog post, we introduced you to the very first chapter of rain where a young boy ran after a girl with an invisible silhouette brought to life only in the rain.

This imaginative story continues as you progress through the game and today we'd like to pull you deeper into this world with our new trailer, Two Silhouettes.

As the boy chases after the girl, he enters the mysterious world of rain and learns that he has also become invisible. In the pouring rain, he is lost and frightened as he is hunted by ghostly creatures. But, his determination to save the girl only grows stronger and he presses on.

In the new trailer above, you will discover that eventually the paths of the invisible boy and girl collide. Each of the locations they'll visit throughout the game varies dramatically from the next.

For instance, the church where the boy and girl nearly meet on their venture houses a number of rooms near the altar and scaffolding to hide from enemies while the abandoned factory presents a more...

Here's a quick recap, in case you didn't read our earlier posts. Zombie Tycoon 2: Brainhov's Revenge is a real-time strategy game. However, it's not your classic RTS with resource gathering, base building and tech-tree climbing.

No, it's pure, unadulterated tactical zombie assault! You've got two zombie packs, a mobile base and a monster at your beck and call, each controlled using a different symbol button on the controller.

In multiplayer mode, both teams start out at the opposite ends of the map. As they move across town toward an inevitable confrontation, they capture buildings that grant diverse benefits. The more buildings you take, the more zombies you have and the more special zombies you unlock.

Trophy hunters out there will be happy to hear that Zombie Tycoon...

Video: The Invisible World of Rain - New PlayStation 3 Gameplay

200°
83w ago - Sony Associate Producer Dais Kawaguchi is here with some fresh video footage on the invisible world of Rain featuring new PlayStation 3 gameplay.

To quote: Hi everyone! It's been a while since we made the announcement of rain at Gamescom, but ever since then, we have been working hard to ensure the wait for more information was worthwhile.

rain was developed by the creative minds from PlayStation C.A.M.P!, the team behind unique titles like TOKYO JUNGLE and echochrome. Rain evolved from a truly unique concept where an imaginative world comes to life once is starts raining.

The story of rain is the enchanting tale about a boy who chases after a girl with an invisible silhouette. After discovering that the girl is being hunted by ghostly creatures, he embarks on his own journey into the mysterious world of rain to save her and discovers he has also become invisible.

Players will play as the boy, whose silhouette can only be seen in the rain. Using the unique ability to appear and disappear under cover players must learn to navigate through the unknown to advance. Just like in the real world, what can be seen isn't everything and using imagination is the only way to reveal the truth.
