PlayStation Store is Live and Updated Now for June 2, 2011

170w ago - As a follow-up to the previous announcement, Sony's PlayStation Store Director Grace Chen is here with the return of the US (and [Register or Login to view links]) PSN updates today.

To quote: The PlayStation Store is back online and thank you everyone for your patience. You will notice a huge lineup of new downloadable games, demos, add-on content, themes, avatars and videos.

Also, PlayStation Plus has been updated with new full game trials, free games and DLC, free avatars and even more discounts.

You may have noticed that the content promised as part of the Welcome Back offer is not yet live. It is currently in the final stages of testing and will be available to download soon; we'll be sure to let you know when.

The next PlayStation Store and PlayStation Plus update will be this Friday, June 3, and then we will roll right into some special publishes starting next week for E3 (so be sure to check back daily!).

In the meantime, check out all the new downloadable content on PlayStation Store.



 

Sony Says Play On - PSN Restoration Officially Begins Now!

172w ago - Following the release of PS3 Firmware 3.61 and the PSN restoration announcement from Kazuo Hirai, Sony's Senoir Director of Corporate Communications & Social Media Patrick Seybold tells PSN users to 'play on' confirming that PlayStation Network restoration officially begins now.

To quote: Thank you for your patience and encouragement over the last few weeks. As covered in the post from earlier today, you can now update the firmware on your PS3 and change your password. Kazuo Hirai just announced that we have begun the phased restoration by region of some of the services, starting with online multiplayer functionality.

Please note that these services will take a bit of time to be turned on and rolled out to the whole country. The process has begun and some states are being turned on now, so please be patient as we reach your city and state. Well be updating the map below as service comes online in individual states.

It will take several hours to restore PSN throughout the entire country, so please keep checking back for the latest updates. In the meantime, nows a great time to get your PS3s firmware updated and change your password, both of which are required...
 

Some PSN Services Available This Week, Free Month of PS Plus

174w ago - From their [Register or Login to view links] today, Kazuo Hirai has briefed the media on Sony's investigation into the PlayStation Network security breach, PSN security measures and service restoration plans.

Sony stated they plan restore some PSN and Qriocity services this week with the rest during the new month, and confirmed that all existing PlayStation Network customers will be provided with 30 days free membership in the PlayStation Plus premium service while current members of PlayStation Plus will receive 30 days free service.

Video: Yakuza 4 PS3 Demo is Live on PlayStation Network Today

184w ago - Sega of America's Assistant Community Manager Aaron Webber has shared a video announcing the Yakuza 4 PS3 demo is going live on PlayStation Network today.

To quote: That one guy from SEGA is back again, here to talk all things Yakuza 4, answer your questions in the comments, and remind you of one very important thing: The free Yakuza 4 demo is going live on PSN today!

If you've never played the Yakuza series before, I highly recommend you download the demo and give it a whirl. Today's demo is built around brawling, and in it you'll get to play as all four unique characters in the game.

Oh, and if you're glowing blue and you see the triangle button appear, make sure to press it - those are called HEAT actions, and they're both brutal and pretty amazing.





Also, hidden tip - we've equipped each character with a special weapon to use! Tap down on the d-pad to equip a weapon, and you'll find yourself armed with everything from nunchucks to spears to katanas. Kazuma Kiryu, the final character in the demo, also comes equipped with all three for you to try out.
