PS JailBreak PS3 Exploit Reverse Engineering is Detailed!

800°
208w ago - Earlier today we reported on the open-source PS JailBreak PS3 exploit from Mathieulh's PlayStation 3 hacking team dubbed PSGroove, and as promised the reverse-engineering details are now available linked above and posted below, as follows:

Analysis of the PSJailbreak Exploit

Intro

The PSJailbreak dongle is a modchip for the PlayStation 3 that allows users to backup and play games off the harddrive. Unlike the modchips of the Previous generation, or the modchips so far for the Xbox360 and Wii, this modchip simply plugs into the USB port on the front of the PS3, avoiding the need for complex soldering and voiding of your warranty.

As the time of writing this document, the final PSJailbreak has not been released, but a number of samples were given out and at least one fell into the hands of someone who owned a USB sniffer.

This analysis of the exploit is based on those USB sniffer logs, issues encountered during the development of the opensource PSGroove version of the exploit and a number of educated guesses. It will probably be updated as new information comes in.

The initial analysis by gamefreax.de suggested that it was a Stack...

Red Dead Redemption PS3 Free XP Glitch Exploit Surfaces

650°
219w ago - Update: As confirmed by KRaZE HERE, Rockstar has now fixed the Red Dead Redemption PS3 Free XP Glitch Exploit.

Today Gamerzines.com (linked above) reported on a Red Dead Redemption PS3 'Free XP' glitch exploit that has surfaced to plague Rockstar's open world action-adventure Western video game.

When traveling to the various gang hideouts on the map, although finding the enemies won't spawn, users are currently receiving a "Hideout Complete" message and being awarded with Free XP.

Of course, some players are exploiting this Red Dead Redemption PS3 glitch as follows, to quote:

"Those looking to exploit such a glitch, will be able to continually select 'Replay' on the Personal Stats screen, and begin to quickly rank their character in a matter of minutes.

Keep doing so, and you'll be able to whizz your way righ up to level 50, unlocking all weapons, steeds etc on the way."

Below is a clip of the Red Dead Redemption PS3 glitch exploit in action, courtesy of red8316!

While many are still hoping for PS3 Custom Firmware, this proof-of-concept appears to mimick GeoHot's PS3 Custom Themes Hack Demonstration, however, instead of using PlayStation 3 .RCO File editing via RCOMage or similar, SKFU utilizes the Sony application p3tcompiler.exe from the official SDK.

To quote from SKFU: "So here is the result of the simple idea. The first code which is 100% PS3 only compatible. No flash, no bd-java or similar. The actual exploit is not finished. This is just...

PS3 USB Keyboard LED Exploit and Source Code Released

700°
222w ago - We've seen the PS3 Exploit performed with an SX28, Atmega8 and Parallel/LPT1 Port, so here are some pics, a schematic and source code to run the PlayStation 3 exploit via USB Keyboard with an LED.

Maybe some of you don't want to open the PS3 just because if you install the exploiter hardware, it would look ugly.

Or just wanna hide/integrate, so it won't interfere, deattach,... etc if you have to move the "box". Even if neither, I think it looks better, work better if you install inside.

So, how to do?
Install a faux-keyboard to one of the usb and connect a wire to the "magic-point".

• the schematic (final version)
• the breadboard model (first probe.. one led differs)
• the "internal...
