151w ago - Previously we reported on a PSN ban rumor which was followed by speculation on preventing bans, and today Dutch site PS3-Sense (linked above) claims that according to SKFU Sony plans to combat PS3 piracy with Blu-ray disc serial keys.
Similar to what's been done with PC games in the past, when you buy a PS3 or PSN game you'll get a serial key with it which you can use up to 5 times.
This gives Sony a signal that you are authorized to play the game and that you have a legal copy of the game, and the serial key only works with the same Blu-ray disc with the same serial number.
To quote, roughly translated: "From a very reliable source (SKFU) we have heard a striking new feature of the PS3. The feature would be present even at the PlayStation Network but is currently still hidden.
It is a serial system which Sony will soon start working on. Since the root keys are on the street you can see every homebrew tool (including backup...
This is just a first come first serve, don't use this because you will lose JailBreak. This is nice to use for the fact that it puts the apps_home and game install and homebrew folder on your xmb, this has been done by, ACID, REBUG, and myself. Although we haven't made them into PUPs, you can certainly add the app_home, and install folder to XMB.
Try it Before You Buy it. If you don't like it Return. That being said, try CFW Retail just use comgenie to transfer files from your dev_flash folder to you usb folder and replace /vhs folder with one provided. Then run a custom usb loader of your choice.
PUP coming soon, that should re-enable blu-ray. Am busy testing so be patient
1. New fixes to xmb moved a few more things around
2. Did not take...
153w ago - A few weeks ago among some other work-arounds we reported on a project aiming to fix PlayStation 3 Blu-ray drives for those who downgraded their console, and today the group has released DRLTools DRLGen v0.90 suite offering an easy to use PS3 Blu-ray playback fix.
Our quest to restore BD playback for those PS3s that lost it after downgrading continues. Unfortunately our project suffered a serious setback last week when one of our discoveries was prematurely leaked: A potentially harmful and incomplete method to restore BD playback was disclosed by an attention-seeking individual. It should be noted that the fix in question is only a "band-aid" solution to the problem.
There is a very real possibility of future drive revocation resulting in PERMANENTLY broken playback! However, to make using it safer for those who wish to apply it, we have created this collection of DRL Tools. In the meantime we are...
155w ago - Previously we reported that PS3 downgrading hinders Blu-ray movie playback along with some work-arounds while markjtarr began a Poll on working/non-working drives post-downgrade, and today Project Blu-ray seeks to restore functionality using feedback from PlayStation 3 downgraders.
To quote from PSGroove (linked above): "They are asking anyone with a PS3 to run an app they have developed, which will dump certain files related to Blu-Ray playback.
It does not matter if the Blu-ray problem is affecting your console or not, your files are still needed for analysis. Once analyzed, this should lead to a permanent Blu-ray playback fix!"
From the included ReadMe file: One of the most exciting recent developments is the ability to downgrade PS3s to previous firmwares. Unfortunately this has proven to have an unexpected side-effect for certain older ("phat") PS3s:
After downgrading, systems with 256MB of flash RAM (NAND) lose the...
To quote: Additional new features in the 3.50 update include:
• Facebook Integration: Developers will be able to create PS3 games that have more interaction with Facebook. Once compatible PS3 titles are available, PS3 users can choose to access public information on Facebook - including user name, profile, uploaded photos and friends list - to enhance their gameplay experience.
• Grief Reporting Function: Users can send claim reports directly from the XMB for any inappropriate messages they receive from other PlayStation Network users. This feature is accessible from the option menu of the messages list in the FRIENDS category.
